State Road 880 (SR 880) is a long state highway in Belle Glade, Florida, running from State Roads 80 and 15 east to State Road 717. From here, it continues east for almost to Twenty Mile Bend as County Road 880 (CR 880). Route description State Road 880 begins on MLK Jr. Boulevard, where it heads east towards State Road 717, the eastern terminus. East of SR 717, the road continues east as County Road 880 to State Road 80 ( US 98 / US 441) at Twenty Mile Bend. History The road is a former alignment of State Road 80, which now uses the Hooker Highway to the north. County Road 880 was previously signed as State Road 880, and was transferred to county control on August 2, 1994. The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) is a decentralized agency charged with the establishment, maintenance, and regulation of public transportation in the state of Florida. State Road 80 (SR 80) (also known as Palm Beach Boulevard in Lee County and Southern Boulevard in Palm Beach County) is a route linking US 41 Business in Fort Myers and State Road A1A in Palm Beach. The road is the northernmost of three linking Southwest Florida to South Florida via the Everglades (Alligator Alley and Tamiami Trail being the other two). Due to increasing traffic, State Road 80 has experienced upgrades and widening in various sections since 2000. The State Highway System of the U.S. state of Florida comprises the roads maintained by the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) or a toll authority. The components are referred to officially as state roads, abbreviated as SR. History Prior to the 1945 renumbering, State Roads were given numbers in the order they were added to the system. The 1945 renumbering removed many roads that were never built and added some that had not existed prior to 1945. In 1955, the State Road Department (SRD) slowed the addition of new state roads and began to classify roads into primary, secondary, and local roads. Primary roads would continue to be state-maintained, while secondary roads would have an S before the number, and would only be state-maintained during a construction project. U.S. Route 98 (US 98) is a major east-west thoroughfare through the U.S. state of Florida. Spanning , it connects Pensacola and the Alabama/Florida state line to the west with Palm Beach and the Atlantic coast in the east. Palm Beach County is a county located in the southeastern part of Florida and lies directly north of Broward County and Miami-Dade County. State Road 717 (SR 717) is a northwest-southeast road in Belle Glade, Palm Beach County, Florida, also known as Canal Street. Route description Paralleling the Hillsboro Canal its entire length, SR 717 extends from SR 880 and County Road 880 (CR 880) on the eastern edge of the city to the intersection of SR 715 on the western edge of the city. From its northern terminus at SR 715 to the intersection with North Main Street (SR 15- 80), SR 717 follows the northern edge of the canal; between SR 15-80 and SR 880-CR 880 it follows the southern edge. State Road 15 (SR 15) is part of the Florida State Road System. This route is part of a multi two-state route 15 that begins at Florida and ends at Georgia at the North Carolina state line. Route description SR 15 runs from SR 80/ SR 880 at Belle Glade north along the east shore of Lake Okeechobee to Okeechobee. Then it runs north to SR 500 (US 192) at Holopaw, and northwest along SR 500 to Ashton (east of St. Cloud), where it ends. County Road 15 in Osceola County and Orange County connects to the beginning of the next section, at SR 528 (the Bee Line Expressway) east of Orlando International Airport.
