State Road 563 (SR 563) is a state highway in Lakeland, Polk County, Florida, that runs from south of Beaker Road to U.S. Route 92 and Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue. History The original version of Florida State Road 563 was a secondary route that ran north of US 92 along Dakota Avenue until Parkview Street, where it ran east to US 98. The segment between Lake Wire and what is today hidden Florida State Road 600 was part of former State Road 35A. The road was extended southbound along a new arterial in 1975 towards the Lakeland Civic Center, and vicinity. The project included taking over Florida State Road 539 (former SR 35A) south of Lake Wire, underpasses beneath the east leg of the wye for the CSX Carters and Vitis Subdivisions, West Main Street, West Lemon Street (both former US BUS 92/SR 600) and West Orange Street, as well as a southbound off-ramp leading to Lemon and Main Streets and a northbound on-ramp from Orange Street. State Road 539 (SR 539) is a northwest–southeast route in Lakeland. SR 539 is also known as Kathleen Road, and is one of the main routes connecting downtown Lakeland with Interstate 4 (I-4). Route description Florida State Road 539 begins at Florida State Road 563 on the west side of Lake Wire, where Sikes Boulevard becomes Kathleen Road and SR 563 makes a right turn from Sikes onto Martin Luther King Junior Avenue. One block after the southern terminus, the route encounters the intersection with Florida State Road 548, also known as George Jenkins Boulevard and the Lakeland In-Town Bypass. North of the intersection with People's Lane, SR 539 and Kathleen Road runs parallel to the east side of the CSX Vitis Subdivision, both of which run under a 1966-built bridge for U.S. Route 92 (hidden SR 546). Carters Subdivision
CSX Transportation's Carters Subdivision is a segment of CSX's A Line running from Poinciana southwest to Lakeland. The Carters Subdivision ends just west of Downtown Lakeland at Lakeland Junction, where it continues west as the Lakeland Subdivision and connects to the Vitis Subdivision. Another important junction on the line is Auburndale Interlocking, just west of Auburndale. Here, the line connects with the Auburndale Subdivision, CSX's only line to South Florida and the Miami area. Freight trains bound for Miami from the rest of the country generally come off the Vitis Subdivision and run the Carters Subdivision to reach Miami. The McDonald Connection track connects the Carters Subdivision from the south with the Auburndale Subdivision and the Can Yard Lead connects it in the north direction. Vitis Subdivision
CSX Transportation's Vitis Subdivision is a railroad line running along CSX's AR Line in Central Florida from Richland to Lakeland for a total of 19.7 miles. The Vitis Subdivision serves as a connection between CSX's two main lines in Florida, the A Line and the S Line. Its connection with the S Line (which is a detour of the original S Line) at the north end is known as Vitis Junction. The connection with the A Line at the south end is known as Lakeland Junction. Polk Parkway
State Road 570 (SR 570), also known as the Polk Parkway, is a , limited-access toll road which runs through Polk County, Florida. It is operated as part of Florida's Turnpike Enterprise system of limited-access expressways. The Polk Parkway mainly serves as a beltway around Lakeland forming a semicircle, which along with I-4 circumscribes most of the city limits of Lakeland. As part of Florida's Turnpike network, SunPass, E-Pass, and LeeWay electronic toll collection were recognized along with coin collection at toll plazas and interchange ramps. The Polk Parkway didn't, however, employ open road tolling like numerous other toll roads in Florida until on September 23, 2022, at 8:00 pm, when it went to all-electronic tolling, like the other toll roads within the network. State Road 548 (SR 548), also known as the Lakeland In-Town Bypass, is a short six-lane arterial in Lakeland, Florida, United States, opened in early 2004. It connects George Jenkins Boulevard (west of downtown) to U.S. Highway 98 (US 98) and SR 600 (Bartow Road and Main Street) east of downtown, allowing traffic to bypass downtown. History SR 548 opened in 2004. Second phase SR 548 was extended west across SR 563 (Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue) and SR 539 (Kathleen Road) terminating at George Jenkins Boulevard west of downtown.
