The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) is a decentralized agency charged with the establishment, maintenance, and regulation of public transportation in the state of Florida. Interstate 295 (I-295), an auxiliary route of Interstate 95 in Florida, I-95, is a beltway around central Jacksonville, Florida. The beltway consists of two segments, the West Beltway (formerly signed as simply I-295), and the East Beltway (formerly signed as Florida State Road 9A (Jacksonville), State Road 9A, SR 9A), with I-95 serving as the dividing line between the two. The entire highway carries a hidden designation as SR 9A by the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT). State Road 103 (SR 103), locally known as Lane Avenue, is a state road completely in Jacksonville. It travels from SR 208 north to US 90. Route description SR 103 begins at the intersection of Lane Avenue and Wilson Boulevard ( SR 208), with SR 103 taking Lane Avenue north as a four-lane street through a mix of residential and commercial areas. The first major intersection is the western terminus of SR 128 (San Juan Avenue), and then the road curves slightly east, becoming a commercial road north of County Road 213 (Lenox Avenue). It is followed by an intersection with SR 228 (Normandy Boulevard) and an interchange with I-10. While SR 9 is mainly used as a state designation for Interstate 95 in Florida from the Golden Glades Interchange in Miami Gardens to the Georgia border (near Yulee, Florida), a signed SR 9, which is locally known in the Miami area as West 27th Avenue, Unity Boulevard, and historically Grapeland Boulevard, extends from the Coconut Grove section of Miami to the Golden Glades Interchange (where the unsigned portion continues northward along I-95). The State Highway System of the U.S. state of Florida comprises the roads maintained by the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) or a toll authority. The components are referred to officially as state roads, abbreviated as SR. History Prior to the 1945 renumbering, State Roads were given numbers in the order they were added to the system. The 1945 renumbering removed many roads that were never built and added some that had not existed prior to 1945. In 1955, the State Road Department (SRD) slowed the addition of new state roads and began to classify roads into primary, secondary, and local roads.
