The Florida Rugby Union (FRU) is a Geographical Union (GU) that governs the Florida peninsula for USA Rugby. The Florida Rugby Union has four divisions: Men's, Women's, Collegiate Men's, and Collegiate Women's. The University of Miami Rugby Football Club is the rugby union club of the University of Miami in Coral Gables, Florida. The coach is Ryan Forston. The University of Miami Rugby team competes in the USA Rugby South against other rugby clubs in Florida and has played teams outside of Florida, including in the Bahamas and in other Caribbean nations. History The club was formally founded in 1989 as the Miami Rugby Club for students of the University of Miami, though the team existed prior to 1989 as an intramural sport at the University of Miami competing against local clubs from 1978 to 1994. The Trident Rugby Football Club is a Miami, Florida based men's rugby union team. Since its founding in 1972, Trident has been one of the preeminent Miami rugby club. Admitted in 1973, Trident competes within the Florida Rugby Union and currently fields a competitive top division team as well as a developmental team. Following an undefeated 2015/16 regular season, winning by an average margin of 30 points per game (a Florida Rugby Record), the Tridents entered the Florida Rugby Playoffs as the top seed.
