Florida ( ; ) is a U.S. state, state in the Southeastern United States, Southeastern region of the United States. It borders the Gulf of Mexico to the west, Alabama to the northwest, Georgia (U.S. state), Georgia to the north, the Atlantic Ocean to the east, the Straits of Florida to the south, and The Bahamas to the southeast. About two-thirds of Florida occupies a peninsula between the Gulf of Mexico and the Atlantic Ocean. In God We Trust
"In God We Trust" (also rendered as "In God we trust") is the United States national motto, official motto of the United States as well as the motto of the U.S. state of Florida, along with the nation of Nicaragua (Spanish language, Spanish: ''En Dios confiamos''). It was adopted by the U.S. Congress in 1956, replacing ("Out of many, one"), which had been the ''de facto'' motto since the initial design of the Great Seal of the United States. The fourth stanza of the U.S. national anthem "The Star-Spangled Banner", adopted from the 1814 poem "The Defence of Fort M'Henry", contains the line: "And this be our motto—"In God is our trust"". The origins of "In God We Trust" as a political motto lie in the American Civil War, where Union (American Civil War), Union supporters wanted to emphasize their attachment to God and to boost morale.
