Florida Coastal School Of Law
Florida Coastal School of Law was a Private university, private For-profit college, for-profit law school in Jacksonville, Florida. It was established in 1996 and was the last operating of three for-profit law schools of the InfiLaw System owned by Sterling Partners. Because of funding and accreditation issues, the school closed its doors in 2021. ''U.S. News & World Report'' ranks Coastal Law 147-193, its lowest law school ranking. In July 2022, the school had the lowest Florida bar passage rate of all Florida law schools, at 31%. Jacksonville Area Legal Aid
The Jacksonville Area Legal Aid, JALA, developed during the Great Depression in the United States, Great Depression and the recession of 1937 out of a group of attorneys who organized to provide pro bono legal services to those who could not afford the services. The Jacksonville Area Legal Aid was officially named in 1973, and received 501(c), 501(c)(3) tax status in 1976. JALA is a mid-size law firm with over 50 lawyers and support staff who offer free legal services to low income clients in Civil law (area), civil legal matters which include public benefits, employment/unemployment law, family law, landlord-tenant disputes, fair housing, guardianship, refugee and asylee immigration, foreclosure defense, and consumer law. The Law School Admission Test (LSAT; ) is a standardized test administered by the Law School Admission Council (LSAC) for prospective law school candidates. It is designed to assess reading comprehension as well as logical and verbal reasoning proficiency. The test is an integral part of the law school admission process in the United States, Canada (common law programs only), the University of Melbourne, Australia, and a growing number of other countries. The test had existed in some form since 1948, when it was created to give law schools a standardized way to assess applicants in addition to their GPA. Matthew Shirk
Matthew Aaron Shirk (born July 9, 1973) is an American lawyer and served as the public defender for Florida's Fourth Judicial Circuit. He was elected to the position, which covers Clay, Duval, and Nassau Counties, in 2008 and lost re-election in 2016. He is currently under investigation by the Florida Bar for actions while in office. In August 2022 the Florida Supreme Court unanimously approved suspending Shirk from practicing law for one year. Early life Shirk graduated from Western Illinois University with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1997, and subsequently moved to Jacksonville, Florida, where he earned a J.D. degree from the Florida Coastal School of Law in 1999. Michele Rayner
Michele Rayner-Goolsby (born September 25, 1981) is an American attorney and politician. She has served as a member of the Florida House of Representatives since 2020, representing District 70 in Pinellas, Hillsborough, Manatee, and Sarasota Counties. She is the first openly lesbian black woman elected to the Florida Legislature. Early life and career Rayner was born and raised in Clearwater, Florida. She attended Florida State University, receiving her B.S. in international affairs and political science in 2003, and M.S. in international affairs in 2006.
