Flore Levine-Cousyns
Flore Levine-Cousyns was born in Antwerp in Belgium on December 6, 1898 and died in Antwerp on April 14, 1989. She was a concert pianist, Professor of Piano at the Royal Conservatoire of Antwerp (1931-1964) and was appointed Chevalier de l’Ordre de la Couronne and Chevalier de l’Ordre de Léopold. She herself was a disciple of Émile Bosquet.note: Bosquet was born in Brussels in 1878 and died in Brussels in 1958, a virtuoso pianist of international reputation, who studied with Ferruccio Busoni. Émile Bosquet was one of the first pianists to obtain the First Prize of the worlds’ famous Anton Rubinstein Competition in Vienna in 1900. Maria Scheepers van Dommelen (17 November 1892 - 1989) was a Belgian pianist who arranged works and premiered several concerti for the Hans piano. She also performed with the Belgian Vocal Trio and arranged music for it. She used the pseudonym Mit Scapus. Scheepers was born in Antwerp and lived there her entire life. She studied at the Royal Conservatory of Antwerp with August De Boeck. As a concert pianist, she presented many concerts with pianist Flore Levine-Cousyns. She performed with the Belgian Vocal Trio with Roitel and Tolkowsky, and arranged over 60 songs for the trio. She also served as president of the ''Concerts de Midi d'Anvers''. In 1926, Pierre Hans commissioned August De Boeck to compose a concerto for the Hans piano. Hans was an engineer with very thick fingers, who had asked the French firm Pleyel to build a piano he designed with an upper keyboard and a lower keyboard tuned a half tone apart. The ''Gazet van Antwerpen'' (Antwerp Gazette, popularly named ''De Frut'', "sour head cheese") is a Belgian newspaper in Antwerp and Flanders, published by Concentra. History and profile ''Gazet van Antwerpen'' was established in 1891. Its editor was Jan Baptist Napolitaan Van Os, a Catholic. Shortly afterwards, the company ''NV De Vlijt'' took over the newspaper. Circulation rose to 25,000 in 1893 and 40,000 in 1896. Around World War I, its circulation was just short of 100,000. In 1973, ''Gazet van Antwerpen'' reached its peak of 210,000. The ''NV De Vlijt'' merged into the ''Regionale Uitgeversgroep'' with ''Concentra Holding'' in 1996, the publisher of ''Het Belang van Limburg'' which became its sister newspaper. Marie Jaëll (née Trautmann) (17 August 1846 – 4 February 1925) was a French pianist, composer, and pedagogue. Marie Jaëll composed pieces for piano, concertos, quartets, and others, She dedicated her cello concerto to Jules Delsart, and was the first pianist to perform all the piano sonatas of Beethoven in Paris. She did scientific studies of hand techniques in piano playing and attempted to replace traditional drilling with systematic piano methods. Her students included Albert Schweitzer, who studied with her while also studying organ with Charles-Marie Widor in 1898-99. She died in Paris. Heinrich Neuhaus
Heinrich Gustav Neuhaus ( pl, Henryk (Harry) Neuhaus, russian: Ге́нрих Густа́вович Нейга́уз, Genrikh Gustavovič Nejgauz, 10 October 1964) was a Russian-born pianist and teacher of German and Polish extraction. Part of a musical dynasty, he grew up in a Polish-speaking household. He taught at the Moscow Conservatory from 1922 to 1964. He was made a People's Artist of the RSFSR in 1956. Walter Wilhelm Gieseking (5 November 1895 – 26 October 1956) was a French-born German pianist and composer. Gieseking was renowned for his subtle touch, pedaling, and dynamic control—particularly in the music of Debussy and Ravel; he made integral recordings of all their published works which were extant during his life. He also recorded most of Mozart's solo piano works.
