Flodder In Amerika
''Flodders in America'' ( nl, Flodder in Amerika!), released in Quebec as ''Les Lavigueur Redéménagent'', is a 1992 Dutch comedy film directed by Dick Maas. The film is the sequel of the successful film ''Flodder'' from 1986. It was filmed on location in New York and stars Dutch actors Huub Stapel, Nelly Frijda, Tatjana Simic, Rene van 't Hof, Lou Landré, Gerard Joling, Dick Rienstra, and American actor Jon Polito as nightclub owner Larry Rosenbaum. Story The city council comes into contact with a cultural exchange project in the USA, which proposes to have an average family of either country live for a year in the other one. Dick Maas
Dirk Herman Willem Maas (Dick) (born 15 April 1951) is a Dutch film director, screenwriter, film producer and film composer. Maas achieved fame after the success of his music videos for the Dutch band Golden Earring, including " Twilight Zone" and the controversial " When the Lady Smiles," and his films ''De Lift'', '' Amsterdamned'' and '' Flodder'' in the 1980s. Maas also directed the controversial Saint Nicolas slasher '' Sint'' (Saint Nick) and one episode of the TV series ''Young Indiana Jones''. The film ''Karakter'' won the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film in 1996. Maas served as executive producer. The film was produced by his production company First Floor Features, founded in 1984. He left the company, which he started with Laurens Geels, in 2001. The guilder ( nl, gulden, ) or florin was the currency of the Netherlands from the 15th century until 2002, when it was replaced by the euro. The Dutch name ''gulden'' was a Middle Dutch adjective meaning "golden", and reflects the fact that, when first introduced in 1434, its value was about equal to (i.e., it was on par with) the Italian gold florin. Frau Antje
Frau Antje is a Dutch character used in the advertising of cheese (and other dairy products). "Frau" is German for "Ms.", and "Antje" is a first name that is as acceptable in German as it is in Dutch: the character was created specifically for the advertising the export of Dutch cheese to Germany. Frau Antje was born during the 1959 edition of the Berlin International Green Week, a trade fair for agriculture and nutrition. Apparently, a young Dutch woman from The Hague named Antje was working the booth of the Dutch Dairy Organization (NZB), serving cheese; when she fell ill and her colleagues kept being asked "where Frau Antje was", the chief of the NZB decided there was commercial potential in the idea. He hired Kitty Janssen to be the first Frau Antje (1961), dressed in a supposedly traditional Dutch costume and wearing wooden shoes. Bitterballen (plural of ''bitterbal'') are a Dutch meat-based snack, made by making a very thick stew thickened with roux and beef stock and generously loaded with meat, refrigerating the stew until it firms, and then rolling the thick mixture into balls which then get breaded and fried. Seasonings in the base stew usually include onions, salt and pepper, parsley and nutmeg. Most recipes include nutmeg and there are also variations using curry powder or that add in finely chopped vegetables such as carrot. The ''bitterbal'' derives its name from a generic word for certain types of herb-flavoured alcoholic beverages, called a ''bitter'' in Dutch, and are popularly served as part of a ''bittergarnituur'', a selection of savoury snacks to go with drinks, at pubs or at receptions in the Netherlands.
