Festa Literária Internacional De Paraty
The Festa Literária Internacional de Paraty (International Literary Festival of Paraty- FLIP) is a literary festival held yearly since 2003 in the Brazilian city of Paraty, in the state of Rio de Janeiro. The festival usually happens in early July; in World Cup years, FLIP happens in August. Funding is provided by a graduated system of sponsors and is driven by the nonprofit Associação Casa Azul. In addition to lectures, discussions, literary workshops and events for children (''Flipinha'') and young people (''Flipzona'') are also held. The worldwide success since its founding year is mainly due to the involvement of internationally recognized authors from several countries. The festival was devised by English publisher Liz Calder, co-founder of Bloomsbury Publishing, who lived in Brazil and was the literary agent for several Brazilian authors, using as a model the Hay Festival in the United Kingdom. FLIP is associated with other similar events, such as the International Fes ...

RV FLIP
R/P ''FLIP'' (''floating instrument platform'') is an open ocean research platform owned by the U.S. Office of Naval Research (ONR) and operated by Scripps Institution of Oceanography. The platform is long and is designed to partially flood and pitch backward 90°, resulting in only the front of the platform pointing up out of the water, with bulkheads becoming decks. When flipped, most of the ballast for the platform is provided by water at depths below the influence of surface waves, hence ''FLIP'' is stable and mostly immune to wave action similar to a spar buoy. At the end of a mission, compressed air is pumped into the ballast tanks in the flooded section and the platform, which has no propulsion, returns to its horizontal position so it can be towed to a new location. The platform is frequently mistaken for a capsized ocean transport ship. History The Marine Physical Laboratory of Scripps Institution of Oceanography created ''FLIP'' with funding from the Office of Naval ...

Flip Video
The Flip Video cameras were an American series of tapeless camcorders for digital video created by Pure Digital Technologies, a company bought by Cisco Systems in March 2009; variants included the UltraHD, the MinoHD, and the SlideHD. Flip Video cameras were known for their simple interface with few buttons, minimal menus and built in USB plugs (from which they derived the flip name), and were marketed as making video "simple to shoot, simple to share" Production of the line of Flip video cameras ran from 2006 until April 2011, when Cisco Systems discontinued them as part of a move to "...exit aspects of (their) consumer businesses." Flip cameras contributed to an increase in the popularity of similar pocket camcorders, although the inclusion of HD video cameras in many smartphones has since made them a more niche product. Features Flip cameras can record videos at different resolutions. FlipHD camcorders digitally record high-definition video at 1280 x 720 resolution using ...

The band currently consists of Wayne Coyne (vocals, guitar, keyboards), Steven Drozd (guitars, keyboards, bass, drums, vocals), Derek Brown (keyboards, guitars, percussion), Matt Duckworth Kirksey (drums, percussion, keyboards) and Nicholas Ley (percussion, drums). Following the departure of long-time bassist Michael Ivins in 2021, Coyne has remained the band's solo consistent member. The group recorded several albums and EPs on an indie label, Restless, in the 1980s and early 1990s. After signing to Warner Brothers, they released their first record with Warner, ''Hit to Death in the Future Head'' (1992). Their 1993 album ''Transmissions from the Satellite Heart'' included the hit single "She Don't Use Jelly" which broke the band into the mainstream. Flip (mathematics)
In algebraic geometry, flips and flops are codimension-2 surgery operations arising in the minimal model program, given by blowing up along a relative canonical ring. In dimension 3 flips are used to construct minimal models, and any two birationally equivalent minimal models are connected by a sequence of flops. It is conjectured that the same is true in higher dimensions. The minimal model program The minimal model program can be summarised very briefly as follows: given a variety X, we construct a sequence of contractions X = X_1\rightarrow X_2 \rightarrow \cdots \rightarrow X_n , each of which contracts some curves on which the canonical divisor K_ is negative. Eventually, K_ should become nef (at least in the case of nonnegative Kodaira dimension), which is the desired result. The major technical problem is that, at some stage, the variety X_i may become 'too singular', in the sense that the canonical divisor K_ is no longer a Cartier divisor, so the intersection numb ...

Flip (software)
Flip (formerly Flipgrid and originally Vidku) is a free-to-use video discussion platform owned by Microsoft for use in classroom environments. The platform is available via a web browser, or through a mobile app on iOS and Android devices. The software allows teachers to post topics arranged in a grid which contain videos and text-based information, and allows students to submit their own videos in response. Students and teachers are able to add items to the videos they upload including sticky notes and stickers, and the videos uploaded can include automatically transcribed closed captioning. Flipgrid can sync to a teacher's already existing Google Classroom roster, and includes a library of pre-existing video discussion topics from organizations including NASA, PBS, and the BBC. The platform also allows for temporary guest speakers to act in a teacher role and to upload videos and topics of their own. A 2019 study was conducted that concluded that usage of Flip increased studen ...

Functional Lumen Imaging Probe
Functional Lumen Imaging Probe (FLIP) is a test used to evaluate the function of the esophagus, by measuring the dimensions of the esophageal lumen using impedance planimetry. Typically performed with sedation during upper endoscopy, FLIP is used to evaluate for esophageal motility disorders, such as achalasia, diffuse esophageal spasm, etc. Procedure FLIP is most often performed immediately following upper endoscopy (EGD). EGD helps to rule out a mechanical obstruction as a cause for symptoms, and also provides an estimation on the distance from the incisors to the EGJ. FLIP uses impedance planimetry to measure the cross sectional area of the esophageal lumen. The FLIP device consists of a balloon that encases a catheter with multiple pairs of impedance electrodes. Two catheter configurations are available, which are 8 cm and 16 cm in length. The 8 cm catheter includes 16 sensors spaced 0.5 cm apart, and is used to evaluate esophagogastric junction (EGJ) dist ...

Fluorescence Loss In Photobleaching
Fluorescence Loss in Photobleaching (FLIP) is a fluorescence microscopy technique used to examine movement of molecules inside cells and membranes. A cell membrane is typically labeled with a fluorescent dye to allow for observation. A specific area of this labeled section is then bleached several times using the beam of a confocal laser scanning microscope. After each imaging scan, bleaching occurs again. This occurs several times, to ensure that all accessible fluorophores are bleached since unbleached fluorophores are exchanged for bleached fluorophores, causing movement through the cell membrane. The amount of fluorescence from that region is then measured over a period of time to determine the results of the photobleaching on the cell as a whole. Experimental Setup Before photobleaching can occur, cells must be injected with a fluorescent protein, often a green fluorescent protein (GFP), which will allow the targeted proteins to fluoresce and therefore be followed throughout ...
