Flip Phillips
Joseph Edward Filippelli (March 26, 1915 – August 17, 2001), known professionally as Flip Phillips, was an American jazz tenor saxophone and clarinet player. He is best remembered for his work with Norman Granz's Jazz at the Philharmonic concerts from 1946 to 1957. Phillips recorded an album for Verve when he was in his 80s. He performed in a variety of genres, including mainstream jazz, swing, and jump blues. Career He was born in Brooklyn, New York, United States. During the 1930s, Phillips played clarinet in a restaurant in Brooklyn. After that he was a member of bands led by Frankie Newton, Red Norvo, Benny Goodman, and Wingy Manone. He was a regular soloist for the Woody Herman band in the middle 1940s and for the next ten years performed with Jazz at the Philharmonic. He retired to Florida, but after fifteen years he returned to music, recording again and performing into his 80s. William James "Flip" Williams Jr. (November 9, 1956 – October 25, 2005) was an American mass murderer and suspected serial killer who was executed by lethal injection. He was convicted of the September 2, 1991, murders of three rival drug dealers and a visitor to their Youngstown, Ohio home. Williams was previously acquitted of a 1981 murder. Philip "Flip" Slier (4 December 1923 – 9 April 1943) was a Dutch typesetter of Jewish origin who lived in Amsterdam during the German occupation of the Netherlands in World War II. At the age of 18, he received a letter from the Jewish Council of Amsterdam — under orders from the German occupiers — that he was to report to Camp Molengoot or face arrest. He wrote 86 letters from 25 April to 14 September 1942 detailing his experiences as a forced labourer at the labour camp. Eventually he escaped to Amsterdam and lived as an '' onderduiker'' (a person in hiding); he frequently disguised himself and moved to different hiding locations to evade detection. Albert Leonard Rosen (February 29, 1924 – March 13, 2015), nicknamed "Flip" and "The Hebrew Hammer", was an American baseball third baseman and right-handed slugger for the Cleveland Indians of Major League Baseball for ten seasons in the 1940s and 1950s. Thomas Scott "Flip" Phillips (born February 22, 1973) is an American musician, songwriter and record producer. He is the drummer, percussionist, keyboardist and co-founder of the bands Creed, Alter Bridge, and Projected. Life and career Phillips grew up in Madison, Florida. He started out playing in a band called Crosscut at 18. He was a founding member of the band Creed. After Creed dissolved, he joined Alter Bridge in 2004 with fellow then-former Creed members bassist Brian Marshall and lead guitarist Mark Tremonti. He is a self-taught drummer, starting at age 18, and has also played piano and saxophone. Charles "Flip" Nicklin (born 1948) is a nature photographer best known for his underwater photographs of whales. He has been called "one of the world's leading whale photographers." Early life Nicklin's father Chuck is an underwater cinematographer.
