Flip (software)
Flip (formerly Flipgrid and originally Vidku) is a free-to-use video discussion platform owned by Microsoft for use in classroom environments. The platform is available via a web browser, or through a mobile app on iOS and Android devices. The software allows teachers to post topics arranged in a grid which contain videos and text-based information, and allows students to submit their own videos in response. Students and teachers are able to add items to the videos they upload including sticky notes and stickers, and the videos uploaded can include automatically transcribed closed captioning. Flipgrid can sync to a teacher's already existing Google Classroom roster, and includes a library of pre-existing video discussion topics from organizations including NASA, PBS, and the BBC. The platform also allows for temporary guest speakers to act in a teacher role and to upload videos and topics of their own. A 2019 study was conducted that concluded that usage of Flip increased studen ...

Festival Ludique International De Parthenay
The ''Festival Ludique International de Parthenay'', otherwise known as the ''Festival de Jeux'' or ''FLIP'', is a games festival held in the town of Parthenay in western France. The festival is held over a period of 12 days in early July. Most of the festival is held out of doors throughout the streets and squares of the town centre, although some elements are held indoors or under canvas. A shorter indoor version of the festival (''FLIP d'hiver'') runs in November. The festival is organised by the ''communauté de communes'' of Parthenay, with the support of many different partners and sponsors. The first festival was in 1986. In 2011, it ran from 6 to 17 July. No festival was held in 2020. Villages Traditionally, the festival is divided into a number of themed 'villages' spread throughout Parthenay. For example, in 2008, the festival comprised the following villages: *''Village des Créateurs'' *''Village des Jeux'' *''Village des Jeux et Environnement'' *''Village des Je ...

Functional Lumen Imaging Probe
Functional Lumen Imaging Probe (FLIP) is a test used to evaluate the function of the esophagus, by measuring the dimensions of the esophageal lumen using impedance planimetry. Typically performed with sedation during upper endoscopy, FLIP is used to evaluate for esophageal motility disorders, such as achalasia, diffuse esophageal spasm, etc. Procedure FLIP is most often performed immediately following upper endoscopy (EGD). EGD helps to rule out a mechanical obstruction as a cause for symptoms, and also provides an estimation on the distance from the incisors to the EGJ. FLIP uses impedance planimetry to measure the cross sectional area of the esophageal lumen. The FLIP device consists of a balloon that encases a catheter with multiple pairs of impedance electrodes. Two catheter configurations are available, which are 8 cm and 16 cm in length. The 8 cm catheter includes 16 sensors spaced 0.5 cm apart, and is used to evaluate esophagogastric junction (EGJ) dist ...

RV FLIP
R/P ''FLIP'' (''floating instrument platform'') is an open ocean research platform owned by the U.S. Office of Naval Research (ONR) and operated by Scripps Institution of Oceanography. The platform is long and is designed to partially flood and pitch backward 90°, resulting in only the front of the platform pointing up out of the water, with bulkheads becoming decks. When flipped, most of the ballast for the platform is provided by water at depths below the influence of surface waves, hence ''FLIP'' is stable and mostly immune to wave action similar to a spar buoy. At the end of a mission, compressed air is pumped into the ballast tanks in the flooded section and the platform, which has no propulsion, returns to its horizontal position so it can be towed to a new location. The platform is frequently mistaken for a capsized ocean transport ship. History The Marine Physical Laboratory of Scripps Institution of Oceanography created ''FLIP'' with funding from the Office of Naval ...

Fluorescence Loss In Photobleaching
Fluorescence Loss in Photobleaching (FLIP) is a fluorescence microscopy technique used to examine movement of molecules inside cells and membranes. A cell membrane is typically labeled with a fluorescent dye to allow for observation. A specific area of this labeled section is then bleached several times using the beam of a confocal laser scanning microscope. After each imaging scan, bleaching occurs again. This occurs several times, to ensure that all accessible fluorophores are bleached since unbleached fluorophores are exchanged for bleached fluorophores, causing movement through the cell membrane. The amount of fluorescence from that region is then measured over a period of time to determine the results of the photobleaching on the cell as a whole. Experimental Setup Before photobleaching can occur, cells must be injected with a fluorescent protein, often a green fluorescent protein (GFP), which will allow the targeted proteins to fluoresce and therefore be followed throughout ...

Flip Video
The Flip Video cameras were an American series of tapeless camcorders for digital video created by Pure Digital Technologies, a company bought by Cisco Systems in March 2009; variants included the UltraHD, the MinoHD, and the SlideHD. Flip Video cameras were known for their simple interface with few buttons, minimal menus and built in USB plugs (from which they derived the flip name), and were marketed as making video "simple to shoot, simple to share" Production of the line of Flip video cameras ran from 2006 until April 2011, when Cisco Systems discontinued them as part of a move to "...exit aspects of (their) consumer businesses." Flip cameras contributed to an increase in the popularity of similar pocket camcorders, although the inclusion of HD video cameras in many smartphones has since made them a more niche product. Features Flip cameras can record videos at different resolutions. FlipHD camcorders digitally record high-definition video at 1280 x 720 resolution using ...

Fast Local Internet Protocol
The Fast Local Internet Protocol (FLIP) is a communication protocol for LAN and WAN, conceived for distributed applications. FLIP was designed at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam to support remote procedure call (RPC) in the Amoeba distributed operating system.M. Frans Kaashoek, Robbert van Renesse, Hans van Staveren, and Andrew S. Tanenbaum. 1993. FLIP: an internetwork protocol for supporting distributed systems. ACM Trans. Comput. Syst. 11, 1 (Feb. 1993), 73–106. https://doi.org/10.1145/151250.151253 Comparison to TCP/IP In the OSI model, FLIP occupies the network layer (3), thus replacing IP, but it also obviates the need for a transport layer (4) protocol like TCP. Properties FLIP is a connectionless protocol designed to support transparency (with respect to the underlying network layers of the OSI model: 2. data link and 1. physical), efficient RPC, group communication, secure communication and easy network management. The following FLIP properties helps to achieve ...

Flip (form)
The flip phone or clamshell is a form factor of a mobile phone or other device which is in two or more sections that fold via a hinge. If the hinge is on a long edge the device is more likely to be called clamshell than flip phone (e.g., Nokia Communicators). Generally speaking, the interface components such as keys and display are kept inside the closed clamshell, protecting them from damage and unintentional use while also making the device shorter or narrower so it is easier to carry around. In many cases, opening the clamshell offers more surface area than when the device is closed, allowing interface components to be larger and easier to use than on devices which do not flip open. A disadvantage of the clamshell design is the connecting hinge, which is prone to fatigue or failure. Etymology The clamshell form factor is most closely associated with the cell phone market, as Motorola used to have a trademark on the term "flip phone", but the term "flip phone" has become ...

Coin Flip
Coin flipping, coin tossing, or heads or tails is the practice of throwing a coin in the air and checking which side is showing when it lands, in order to choose between two alternatives, heads or tails, sometimes used to resolve a dispute between two parties. It is a form of sortition which inherently has two possible outcomes. The party who calls the side that is facing up when the coin lands wins. History Coin flipping was known to the Romans as ''navia aut caput'' ("ship or head"), as some coins had a ship on one side and the head of the emperor on the other. In England, this was referred to as ''cross and pile''. Process During a coin toss, the coin is thrown into the air such that it rotates edge-over-edge several times. Either beforehand or when the coin is in the air, an interested party declares "heads" or "tails", indicating which side of the coin that party is choosing. The other party is assigned the opposite side. Depending on custom, the coin may be caught; cau ...
