Austin Flint
Austin Flint I (October 20, 1812 – March 13, 1886) was an American physician. He was a founder of Buffalo Medical College, precursor to The State University of New York at Buffalo. He served as president of the American Medical Association. Biography Flint was born at Petersham, Massachusetts on October 20, 1812 to Joseph Henshaw Flint (1786-1846) and Hannah Willard Reed. He was educated at Amherst and Harvard and graduated at the latter in 1833. After practicing at Boston, Massachusetts and Northampton, Massachusetts, he moved to Buffalo, New York, in 1836. He was appointed professor of the institutes and practices of medicine in Rush Medical College in Chicago, Illinois; resigned after one year, in 1846, and established the '' Buffalo Medical Journal''. Judson Rochelle Flint (January 26, 1957 – November 6, 2018) was a former American football defensive back who played four seasons in the National Football League (NFL) with the Cleveland Browns and Buffalo Bills. Sir William Russell Flint (4 April 1880 – 30 December 1969) was a Scottish artist and illustrator who was known especially for his watercolours of women. Waldo Samuel Flint (February 23, 1820October 1, 1900) was an American farmer, nurseryman, and Republican politician. He served two years in the Wisconsin State Senate, representing Green Lake County and central Wisconsin. Biography Flint was born on February 23, 1820, in Braintree, Vermont. He moved to Rochester, Wisconsin Territory, in 1842 and then to Princeton, Wisconsin, in 1850. He moved to a farm near Nashua, Iowa, in 1876, and then to Nashua in 1893. Valerie Irene Jane Flint (5 July 1936 – 7 January 2009) was a British scholar and historian, specialising in medieval intellectual and cultural history. Biography Early life Flint was born in Derby. She was a pupil at the Rutland House School; and although her family was not Catholic, Flint was also educated by the Sisters of Mercy at their Doncaster convent school. Upon winning a scholarship, she matriculated to Lady Margaret Hall at the University of Oxford. Focusing on the 12th century, Flint studied for an MPhil under Beryl Smalley, Richard Southern, Richard Hunt and Lorenzo Minio-Paluello. Academic career Flint's D.Phil. thesis was on "The life and works of Honorius Augustodunensis with special reference to chronology and sources," and was finished in 1969. Roland Henry Flint (February 27, 1934 - January 2, 2001) was an American poet and professor of English at Georgetown University. Life Born in Park River, North Dakota, he attended the University of North Dakota before joining the United States Marine Corps. He served in post-war Korea and then returned to and graduated from the University of North Dakota. He earned an M.A. in English from Marquette University and a Ph.D. from the University of Minnesota, where he wrote his dissertation on the early work of Theodore Roethke, and began to publish his poetry. He was a professor of English at Georgetown University from 1968-1997, and received several university awards for his teaching. During his tenure at Georgetown, Flint received MacDowell (formerly MacDowell Colony) residency awards in 1976, 1983, and 1985. Robert Flint LLD DD (14 March 1838 – 1910) was a Scottish theologian and philosopher who wrote also on sociology. Life Flint was born at Greenburn, Sibbaldbie near Applegarth in Dumfriesshire on 14 March 1838, the son of Grace Johnston (''née'' Paterson) and Robert Flint, a farm overseer. His first school was at Evan Water then he moved to Moffat. In 1852, he entered the University of Glasgow where he distinguished himself (without graduating) in arts and divinity. Having been employed as a lay missionary by the 'Elders' Association of Glasgow', Flint was licensed to preach as a Church of Scotland minister by the Presbytery of Glasgow in June 1858, and for a short time acted as assistant to Norman Macleod, at the Barony Church, Glasgow. Richard Foster Flint
Richard Foster Flint (March 1, 1902 - June 6, 1976) was an American geologist. Biography He was born in Chicago on March 1, 1902. Flint graduated from the University of Chicago and earned his Ph.D. in geology at the University of California graduating in 1925. He then joined Yale as a member of the faculty, becoming a full professor in 1945. Flint was recognized for his leadership role in Quaternary period geology with extensive work on effects of glaciations in northeastern America. He also performed research in Washington State to understand the last ice age’s impact on the Northwest, gaining some notoriety for his opposition to the Missoula Floods hypothesis, which was posed by J Harlen Bretz. He presented a detailed and thoughtful argument against the possibility of catastrophic floods; a position which has subsequently fallen into disfavor based on a wide collection of evidence.
