Flim Flam Films
''Flim Flam Films'' is a 1927 silent animated short subject featuring Felix the Cat. Plot Felix tries to put Inky, Winky and Dinky to bed as part of their nap time but, apparently, they are angry and bored. He then goes to the living room to rest while Kitty is reading a newspaper. The little cats are not sleepy and they cry. Felix gets scared and his wife offers a suggestion of taking the kittens to a cinema. Felix and the three kittens, Inky, Winky and Dinky are off to a cinema in town. He tries to purchase tickets at a booth but the seller at the cinema entrance informs, furious apparently the four cats that cats are not permitted in the theater. They then disguise themselves as a man, and manage to buy a ticket without the seller realizing. Their disguise, however, does not keep them covered for long when a guard at the cinema spots some bizarreness on top because the tail of Dinky, one of the kittens that was pretending to be the man's hat, ends up getting loose from him. ... Otto Messmer
Otto James Messmer (August 16, 1892 – October 28, 1983) was an American animator known for his work on the Felix the Cat cartoons and comic strip produced by the Pat Sullivan studio. The extent of Messmer's role in the creation and popularity of Felix is a matter of ongoing dispute, particularly as he only laid his claim to the character after the death of Sullivan, who until that time had received the credit. Early life Messmer was born August 16, 1892, in West Hoboken, New Jersey (now Union City). He attended Holy Family Parochial School. He had a love of vaudeville and the entertainment industry instilled in him by his parents and teachers beginning at a young age. Patrick Peter Sullivan (22 February 1885 – 15 February 1933)Dates peat the Lambiek Comiclopedia was an Australian-American cartoonist, pioneer animator, and film producer best known for producing the first ''Felix the Cat'' silent cartoons. Early life Sullivan was born in Paddington, New South Wales, the second son of Patrick Sullivan, an immigrant from Ireland and his Sydney-born wife Margaret, ''née'' Hayes. Around 1909, Sullivan left Australia and spent a few months in London, England, before moving to the United States around 1910. He worked as assistant to newspaper cartoonist William Marriner and drew four strips of his own. When Marriner died in 1914, Sullivan joined the new animated cartoon studio set up by Raoul Barré. In 1915, Sullivan was fired by Barre for general incompetence.
