Flight 602 (album)
Flight 602 is the third album released by Aim, and the first released on his own ATIC Records independent record label. It is Aim's third album of studio material, the other two being DJ mix albums. It was released on 25 September 2006. Several tracks were co-written by, and feature vocals from, ATIC label-mate Niko. The album's title is named after the flight that Charles Bukowski took to his first poetry reading in Germany. Aim (musician)
Andrew Turner, known by the recording name Aim, is a British musician, DJ and producer, who was born in Barrow-in-Furness. Aim's sound is a blend of funky electronic music and Hip hop music, hip hop beats, a sound which typified the Grand Central Records label. Much of Aim's work is instrumental music, instrumental, though his records include collaborations with other artists who provide vocals, including Stephen Jones (Babybird), Stephen Jones of Babybird, Diamond D, Souls of Mischief, YZ (rapper), YZ, QNC and Kate Rogers. Trip Hop
Trip hop (sometimes used synonymously with "downtempo") is a musical genre that originated in the early 1990s in the United Kingdom, especially Bristol. ATIC Records
''ATIC Records'' is an independent record label formed by British musician, DJ and producer, Aim (Andy Turner) and Niko (Nicole Vergel de Dios). They left Grand Central Records in early 2005 and started ATIC Records in June 2006. As there had been limited funds available to promote his releases and attract guest performers, Turner had decided to move away from Grand Central prior to that label's collapse. Rather than sign to a new label, Turner decided to form his own, and in doing so gained greater control over the process of releasing his records and co-ordinating live performances. Much of the artwork used for the label's releases and on the label's website was created by artist Alicia Vergel de Dios, sister of Niko. Independent Record Label
An independent record label (or indie label) is a record label that operates without the funding or distribution of major record labels; they are a type of small- to medium-sized enterprise, or SME. The labels and artists are often represented by trade associations in their country or region, which in turn are represented by the international trade body, the Worldwide Independent Network (WIN). Many of the labels started as producers and distributors of specific genres of music, such as jazz music, or represent something new and non-mainstream, such as Elvis Presley in the early days. Niko (musician)
Nicole Vergel De Dios, known by her stage name Niko, is an American musician. She was born in Seattle, Washington to Japanese and Spanish, Norwegian, German, Filipino parents. She completed a Jazz and Contemporary Music Degree from the New School University in New York City, prior to signing to Grand Central Records independent record label in 2002. She worked as musical supervisor and featured artist on the film ''Take It From Me'' for Public Broadcasting Service (PBS) Public television station. She was based in Brooklyn, New York City before immigrating to the UK. Her debut album, ''Life On Earth'', was produced mainly by fellow former Grand Central artist, Aim as well as Mr. Scruff and Riton. Charles Bukowski
Henry Charles Bukowski ( ; born Heinrich Karl Bukowski, ; August 16, 1920 – March 9, 1994) was a German-American poet, novelist, and short story writer. His writing was influenced by the social, cultural, and economic ambience of his adopted home city of Los Angeles. Bukowski's work addresses the ordinary lives of poor Americans, the act of writing, alcohol, relationships with women, and the drudgery of work.
