Flight 222 (film)
''Flight 222'' (russian: Рейс 222, Reis 222) is a 1985 Soviet docu-drama film directed by Sergei Mikaelyan. It is loosely based about the incidents during the defection of ballet dancer Alexander Godunov in 1979. Plot The film is set in New York City, based on the incident during defection of Alexander Godunov. Irina (Larisa Polyakova) is a part of a Soviet ice dancing tour on a visit to New York along with her husband. When Soviet authorities hear about her husband's defection, they put her on a plane to Moscow. However, U.S. Immigration Service stop the flight insisting that she is being taken out of the United States against her will. Irina's plane to Moscow awaits permission for take-off until a meeting is arranged with her husband at the airport. Sergey Gerasimovich Mikaelyan (russian: Серге́й Гера́симович Микаэля́н; 1 November 1923 – 10 December 2016) was a Soviet Union, Soviet film director and winner of the USSR State Prize (1976). He directed ten films between 1965 and 1986. His 1983 film ''Love by Request'' was entered into the 33rd Berlin International Film Festival. Biography Sergey Mikaelyan was born on 1 November 1923 in Moscow. When he was seventeen he voluntarily served in the Great Patriotic War and was wounded at Battles of Rzhev, Rzhev. In 2015 he published a novella titled "Not Killed at Rzhev" (russian: Не убит подо Ржевом) about his experiences in the war. In 1951 he graduated from the directing department of Russian Academy of Theatre Arts, GITIS (workshop of Boris Zakhava, Maria Knebel, A. Popov), and then, in 1959, the director's course at the Mosfilm. Sergey Mikaelyan staged performances in the Saratov, Gorky, Moscow, and Leningrad theaters. He als ...
