Emma Roberto Steiner
Emma Roberta Steiner (1856February 27, 1929) was an American composer and conductor. She was one of the first women in the United States to make a living from conducting, and did so at more than 6,000 performances during her lifetime. She was additionally the first woman to conduct a Theatre orchestra in New York. Her career spanned nearly five decades, from the 1870s, when she first began conducting for touring comic opera companies, until her death in 1929. In the early 1900s, she took a decade-long hiatus from her musical career to move to Alaska, where she was a prospector and traveler. Steiner wrote hundreds of musical pieces, including seven operas. Biography Steiner was born in Baltimore, Maryland, in 1856. Her father, Colonel Frederick Steiner, was a Mexican War hero and her mother an accomplished pianist. Viktor Nessler
Viktor (or Victor) Ernst Nessler (28 January 1841 – 28 May 1890) was an Alsatian composer who worked mainly in Leipzig. Nessler was born at Baldenheim near Sélestat, Alsace. At Strasbourg he began his university career with the study of theology, but he concluded it with the production of a light opera entitled ''Fleurette'' (1864). To complete his knowledge of music Nessler went to Leipzig to study with Moritz Hauptmann. Fleurette Beauchamp-Huppé
Fleurette Beauchamp-Huppé (December 12, 1907 – March 10, 2007) was a Canadian pianist, teacher and soprano. She was the winner of a prize awarded by the Canadian Institute of Music each year from 1930 to 1932 and earned the Prix de Paris in 1933. Beauchamp-Huppé gave recitals, and performed the works of various pianists on CBC Radio and CKAC. She was also a teacher, mainly at the Conservatoire de musique du Québec à Montréal. There were two accompaniment studios inaugurated by the Conservatiore de musique du Québec à Montréal to recognize Beauchamp-Huppé and the conservatory named a student grant after her. Early life and education On December 12, 1907, Beauchamp-Huppé was born in Montreal, Quebec.
