Flemish Government Architect
The role of Flemish Government Architect (Vlaams Bouwmeester in Dutch) was established in 1998 under Minister-President of Flanders Van den Brande to develop Architectural Design Policy in Flanders, Belgium. Function The Flemish Government Architect is commissioned to develop a long-term spatial vision, in consultation with the different administrations and with external stakeholders, to contribute to the preparation and implementation of the architecture policy of the Flemish government. The goal of this independent body in the government is to help create a high quality architectural living environment in Flanders, which was inspired by the Chief Government Architect of the Netherlands. One of the main tasks of the Flemish Government Architect is selecting designers for public contracts. The Minister-President of Flanders ( nl, Minister-president van Vlaanderen) is the head of the Flemish Government, which is the executive branch of the Flemish Region and Flemish Community.See the communities, regions and language areas of Belgium. The incumbent officeholder is Jan Jambon, who took over from Liesbeth Homans, the interim minister-president, following the 2019 Belgian regional elections. Bob Van Reeth
Bob Van Reeth (Temse, 26 February 1943), who usually signs as bOb Van Reeth, is a Belgian architect. Biography Bob Van Reeth started working as an architect in 1965 with designing buildings in Mechelen and Kalmthout. In 1972, he became a teacher at the Nationaal Hoger Instituut voor Bouwkunst (The National Higher Institute for Architecture) in Antwerp. The same year, he started the group Krokus with Jean-Paul Laenen and Marcel Smets. The group worked on the restoration of the old centre of Mechelen. In the 1980s, Van Reeth designed a new building for the Onze-Lieve-Vrouwecollege in Antwerp. Later buildings include in 2007 a new wing for the Westvleteren Abbey, and the black-and-white Huis Van Roosmalen facing the Scheldt in Antwerp. Oana Bogdan
Oana Bogdan (born December 9, 1977, Sighișoara) is an architect with Belgian and Romanian nationality. Together with Leo Van Broeck, she founded the architectural firm Bogdan & Van Broeck. She is considered as an authority in the field of architecture and is much in demand as a jury member for architecture awards. Biography and education Her mother was a French teacher and her father an engineer. She has two sisters. She took piano lessons for eight years. Oana Bogdan studied architecture and urban planning at Ion Mincu University in Bucharest. Zwin
The Zwin is a nature reserve at the North Sea coast, on the Belgian-Dutch border. It consists of the entrance area of a former tidal inlet which during the Middle Ages connected the North Sea with the ports of Sluis and Bruges inland. The Zwin inlet was formed originally by a storm that broke through the Flemish coast in 1134, creating a tidal channel that reached some 15 km inland and was also connected, through another channel, to the mouth of the Scheldt further north-east. The new waterway offered access to the sea to the inland city of Bruges, which consequently rose to become one of the foremost medieval port cities of Europe. The towns of Damme, Sluis and Sint Anna ter Muiden were also located on the Zwin. However, from the late 13th century onwards, the channel was affected by progressive silting, which ultimately caused the waterway to become unusable and cut off the harbour of Bruges from the sea. Avelgem (; vls, Oavelgem) is a municipality located in the Belgian province of West Flanders. The municipality comprises the towns of Avelgem proper, Bossuit, Kerkhove, Outrijve and Waarmaarde.
