William Curtis
William Curtis (11 January 1746 – 7 July 1799) was an English botanist and entomologist, who was born at Alton, Hampshire, site of the Curtis Museum. Curtis began as an apothecary, before turning his attention to botany and other natural history. The publications he prepared reached a wider audience than early works on the subject had intended. At the age of 25 he produced ''Instructions for collecting and preserving insects; particularly moths and butterflies''. Curtis was demonstrator of plants and Praefectus Horti at the Chelsea Physic Garden from 1771 to 1777. He established his own London Botanic Garden at Lambeth in 1779, moving to Brompton in 1789. He published ''Flora Londinensis'' (6 volumes, 1777–1798), a pioneering work in that it devoted itself to urban nature. Financial success was not found, but he went on the publish ''The Botanical Magazine'' in 1787, a work that would also feature hand coloured plates by artists such as James Sowerby and Sydenham Edwards. ...

Flammulina Filiformis
''Flammulina filiformis'' is a species of agaric (gilled mushroom) in the family (biology), family Physalacriaceae. It is well known for its role in Japanese cuisine, where it is called ''enokitake'' (榎茸, エノキタケ, ) and is widely cultivated in East Asia. Until recently, the species was considered to be conspecific with the European ''Flammulina velutipes'', but DNA sequencing has shown that the two are distinct. Taxonomy ''Flammulina filiformis'' was originally described from China in 2015 as a variety (biology), variety of ''F. velutipes'', based on Internal transcribed spacer, ITS sequences. Further molecular research using a combination of different sequences has shown that ''F. filiformis'' and ''F. velutipes'' are distinct and should be recognized as separate species.

Rolf Singer
Rolf Singer (June 23, 1906 – January 18, 1994) was a Germany, German-born mycologist and one of the most important Taxonomy (biology), taxonomists of gilled mushrooms (agarics) in the 20th century. After receiving his Ph.D. at the University of Vienna in 1931 he worked in Munich. By 1933, however, Singer left Germany for Vienna due to the political deterioration in Germany. There he met his wife, Martha Singer. From Vienna, Singer and his wife went to Barcelona, Spain, where Singer was appointed assistant professor at the Autonomous University of Barcelona. Persecution by the Spanish authorities on behalf of the Germany, German government forced Singer to leave Spain for France in 1934. After a fellowship at the Museum d'Histoire Naturelle in Paris, Singer again moved, this time to Leningrad, where he was Senior Scientific Expert at the Botanical Garden of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR. During his time at the Academy, Singer made many expeditions to Siberia, the Altai Mou ...
