Flemish Movement
The Flemish Movement ( nl, Vlaamse Beweging) is an umbrella term which encompasses various political groups in the Belgian region of Flanders and, less commonly, in French Flanders. Ideologically, it encompasses groups which have sought to promote Flemish culture and Dutch language as well as those who have sought greater political autonomy for Flanders within Belgium. It also encompasses nationalists who have sought the secession of Flanders from Belgium, either through outright independence or unification with the Netherlands. In the 19th century, the Flemish Movement emerged around a form of cultural patriotism which celebrated Flemish traditions and history and sought equal status for Dutch in the Belgian nation-state, often under the auspices of the Catholic Church. Flamand River
The Flamand River (Flemish River, in English) is a tributary of the west bank of the Saint-Maurice River. It flows in the territory of La Tuque in Mauricie, in Quebec, in Canada. Geography At it sources, the Flamand river is fed by the discharge of Lakes Vic and Yvonne, at the southeast of Zec Frémont, in the Laporte Township. The Fremont Lake, located in Zec Frémont is formed in length by a bulge in the Flamand river. In this area the Flamand River drains a catchment area between the watershed of the Manouane River (north) and the watershed of the Vermillion River (south). The Flamand river runs straight north, then turn east for a segment of its course in parallel to the Little Flamand river which is close on the north side. Antonio Flamand (born June 28, 1933) was a nationalist politician in Quebec, Canada. Background He was born on June 28, 1933, in Saint-Honoré, Saguenay–Lac-Saint-Jean. He moved to Rouyn-Noranda and made career in accounting and education. Member of the legislature Flamand won a seat to the National Assembly of Quebec in 1966 in the district of Rouyn-Noranda and was a member of the Union Nationale. In 1969 though, he left his party and sat as an Independent to protest against the passage of Bill 63. He did not run for re-election in 1970.
