Flakstadvåg Chapel
Flakstadvåg Chapel ( no, Flakstadvåg kapell) is a chapel of the Church of Norway in Senja Municipality in Troms og Finnmark county, Norway. It is located in the village of Flakstadvåg on the west coast of the island of Senja. It is an annex chapel for the Torsken parish which is part of the Senja prosti ( deanery) in the Diocese of Nord-Hålogaland. The white, wooden chapel was built in a long church style in 1925 by an unknown architect. The chapel seats about 150 people. History The chapel was originally located on the island of Hallvardsøya, south of Flakstadvåg in what is now part of Tranøy Municipality. The chapel was built on the island by Anton Nilsa to serve the fishermen living there. When he died in 1904, he left about to support the church there. As the population on the island dwindled and the church was deteriorating due to little maintenance, the decision was made to move it to the nearby village of Flakstadvåg on the island of Senja. Senja (municipality)
Senja is a municipality in Troms og Finnmark county, Norway. It was established on 1 January 2020 when the municipalities of Berg, Lenvik, Torsken, and Tranøy were merged into one municipality. It is located in the traditional district of Hålogaland. The administrative centre of the municipality is the town of Finnsnes. The municipality includes all of the island of Senja, the smaller surrounding islands, and part of the mainland between the Gisundet strait and the Malangen fjord. The municipality is the 40th largest by area out of the 356 municipalities in Norway. Senja is the 84th most populous municipality in Norway with a population of 14,738. Senja
or is an island in Troms og Finnmark county, Norway, Europe. With an area of , it is the second largest island in Norway (outside of the Svalbard archipelago). It has a wild, mountainous outer (western) side facing the Atlantic, and a mild and lush inner (eastern) side. The island is located within Senja Municipality, which was established on 1 January 2020. The island of Senja had 7,864 inhabitants as of 1 January 2017. Tranøy Municipality
Tranøy is a former municipality that was located in the old Troms county, Norway. The municipality is situated on the southern coast of the large island of Senja. The municipality existed from 1838 until its dissolution in 2020 when it was merged into the new Senja Municipality. The administrative centre was the village of Vangsvik in the eastern part of the municipality. Other important villages included Stonglandseidet, Skrollsvika, and Å. The nearly-abandoned island of Tranøya, with the 18th-century wooden Tranøy Church, used to be the centre of activities for the municipality.
