Flaka Surroi
Flaka Surroi (born 1964) is a notable Kosovo-Albanian publisher. She comes from the family of Kosovo politician and diplomat Rexhai Surroi, and is a sibling of Veton Surroi, a Kosovan politician. She finished her high school in Mexico, where her father was serving as an ambassador, and graduated at University of Pristina. Before the Kosovo war of 1999, Surroi has worked in several international NGOs, while after the war she led a local foundation. She worked for a short period of time as Permanent Secretary of the Prime Minister of Kosovo, but after the re-entrance of her brother Veton Surroi into politics in 2003, Flaka Surroi took the helm and sole ownership, of the family enterprise Koha Group, that consists of a national TV broadcaster called ''Kohavision'', the biggest daily newspaper in Kosovo ''Koha Ditore ''Koha Ditore'' (trans. Rexhai Surroi
Rexhai Surroi (Serbian: Реџаји Суроји, ''Redžaji Suroji'') (8 June 1929 — 22 December 1988) was a Yugoslav Albanian journalist, diplomat and writer. He was a member of the first cohort of students to have finished high school in Albanian in the former Yugoslavia in 1947/48. He graduated from the University of Belgrade's Law School. He was also one of the few Kosovo Albanians to become ambassadors of Yugoslavia. He was the father of Veton and Flaka Surroi. He was an active football player before becoming journalist and editor of weekly "Zani i Rinis". He was an editor in Radio Pristina, where he became director in the mid-sixties. In 1969/70, he served as vice-president of the provincial government of SAP Kosovo, he was one of the most fervent advocates for the establishment of the University of Pristina, the only in Yugoslavia where the medium of instruction was Albanian. Veton Surroi
Veton Surroi (born 17 July 1961) is a Kosovo-Albanian publicist, politician and former journalist. Surroi is the founder and former leader of the ORA political party, and was a member of Kosovo assembly from 2004 to 2008. Veton Surroi in 1997 established one of the biggest Kosovo Albanian daily newspapers '' Koha Ditore'' and was the editor-in-chief for a number of years before deciding to enter politics in Kosovo. Surroi's father, Rexhai Surroi, was one of the very few Albanians to become ambassadors of the former Yugoslavia. His father was the Yugoslav ambassador to Spain and a number of Latin American countries. As a result, Surroi spent a part of his life in the Spanish-speaking world where he was also educated. The University of Pristina ( sq, Universiteti i Prishtinës) is a public university located in Pristina, Kosovo. It is the institution that emerged after the disestablishment of the University of Pristina (1969–99) as a result of the Kosovo War. Kosovo War
The Kosovo War was an armed conflict in Kosovo that started 28 February 1998 and lasted until 11 June 1999. It was fought by the forces of the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia (i.e. Serbia and Montenegro), which controlled Kosovo before the war, and the Kosovo Albanians, Kosovo Albanian rebel group known as the Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA). Kohavision (shortened to KTV, previously also Koha Vision) is a Kosovan free-to-air television channel launched on September 21, 2000. It was founded by politician and journalist Veton Surroi as part of KOHA Group, a media house currently led by Flaka Surroi. Its programming is centered towards news, with ''Koha e Lajmeve'' being the most watched news edition in the country. ''Koha Ditore'' (trans. ''Daily Time'') is the leading daily newspaper in Kosovo. It is published by Koha Group and was founded and owned by politician Veton Surroi.
