Flag Of The Cocos (Keeling) Islands
The flag of the Cocos (Keeling) Islands was created in 2003 and adopted on 6 April 2004. It was designed by territory resident Mohammed Minkom, who won a design contest as a teenager. Design The flag consists of a green field, with a Arecaceae, palm tree on a gold (color), gold disc in the Canton (flag), canton, a gold wikt:crescent moon, crescent moon in the centre of the flag and a gold southern cross in the fly. The palm tree represents the islands' tropical flora; the colours are National colours of Australia, Australia's national colours; the crescent represents Islam, the religion of the Cocos Malays who make up a majority of the islands' population; and the Crux, Southern Cross is a symbol of Australia and the Southern Hemisphere. Crux () is a constellation of the southern sky that is centred on four bright stars in a cross-shaped asterism commonly known as the Southern Cross. It lies on the southern end of the Milky Way's visible band. The name ''Crux'' is Latin for cross. Even though it is the smallest of all 88 modern constellations, Crux is among the most easily distinguished as its four main stars each have an apparent visual magnitude brighter than +2.8. Ausflag
Ausflag is an organisation that was established to promote a new flag of Australia. Ausflag was formed in 1981 by Harold Scruby who has since worked to foster debate on the design of the flag. Prominent Australians that have been involved in the direction of Ausflag include Nicholas Whitlam, Phillip Adams, Cathy Freeman, Malcolm Turnbull, Janet Holmes à Court and Nick Greiner. Former chair of the Australian Republican Movement Malcolm Turnbull left the board of Ausflag in 1994 after being asked for his resignation and in 2004 joined the Australian National Flag Association. The group was affiliated with NZFlag, a now defunct trust promoting a redesign of the Flag of New Zealand.
