Flag Of Edmonton
The flag of Edmonton in Alberta, Canada features the coat of arms on a white square (Canadian pale) surmounting a light blue field. The colours of the flag, white and blue, symbolize peace and water (for the North Saskatchewan River) respectively. The city flag was first approved by Edmonton City Council on 12 December 1966, designed by artist Norman Yates, and was updated in 1986. In 2016 Mayor Don Iveson supported an effort to adopt a new flag by artist Ryan McCourt and adapting the coat of arms. Due to a lack of support, Iveson abandoned the flag redesign in 2017. Triband (flag)
A triband is a vexillological style which consists of three stripes arranged to form a flag. These stripes may be two or three colors, and may be charged with an emblem in the middle stripe. Design Outside of the name, which requires three bands of color, there are no other requirements for what a triband must look like, so there are many flags that look very different from each other but are all considered tribands. Some triband flags (e.g. those of Croatia and Ghana) have their stripes positioned horizontally, while others (e.g. that of Italy) position the stripes vertically. Often the stripes on a triband are of equal length and width, though this is not always the case, as can be seen in the flags of Colombia and Canada. Canadian Pale
In heraldry and vexillology, a Canadian pale is a centre band of a vertical triband flag (a pale in heraldry) that covers half the length of a flag, rather than a third as in most triband designs. This allows more space to display a central image ( common charge). The name was suggested by Sir Conrad Swan, Rouge Dragon Pursuivant (a heraldic office in Britain), and first used by Queen Elizabeth II as Queen of Canada proclaiming the new Canadian flag on 28 January 1965. Properly, the term should only apply to Canadian flags, though in general use the term is also used to describe non-Canadian flags that have similar proportions. The classic Canadian pale is a square central panel occupying half of a flag with 1:2 proportions. North Saskatchewan River
The North Saskatchewan River is a glacier-fed river that flows from the Canadian Rockies continental divide east to central Saskatchewan, where it joins with the South Saskatchewan River to make up the Saskatchewan River. Don Iveson
Donald L. Iveson (born May 30, 1979) is a Canadian politician who served as mayor of Edmonton from 2013 to 2021. He was first elected as mayor in the 2013 municipal election with 62% of the vote, and was re-elected in 2017 with 73.6% of the vote. Prior to serving as Mayor, Iveson was a member of Edmonton City Council from 2007 to 2013. Early life Iveson was born in St. Albert, Alberta in 1979. He grew up in Parkallen, Edmonton, the only child of Margaret, an education professor at the University of Alberta, and Bob Iveson, a sculptor. As a child, Iveson loved books, both fiction and non-, reading C. S. Forester's Horatio Hornblower series by seventh grade. He was also active in scouting and debate. The flag of Alberta is an official symbol of the province of Alberta, Canada. In 1968, the provincial legislature authorized the design of a flag, adopting it on 1 June 1968.
