Hermann Flade
Hermann Flade (22 May 1932 – 15 May 1980) was a German political scientist. Flade was born in Würzburg. When aged 18 he was the victim of a show trial in Dresden in 1951 at which he was sentenced to death after he had been caught distributing sheets/pamphlets objecting to the undemocratic nature of the 1950 general election in the German Democratic Republic (GDR). The show trial and the court verdict resonated well beyond the borders of the GDR, attracting a level of publicity that ensured Flade a permanent place in the history of the regime. Flade's death sentence was later reduced to 15 years in prison. Life Growing up Hermann Flade was born in 1932 in Lower Franconia in the north-western part of Bavaria. In 1936 he moved with his mother and stepfather to a small industrial town called Olbernhau in the mining region of Saxony, near the border with Bohemia. Klaus-Dietrich Flade (born 23 August 1952) is a German pilot and former German Aerospace Center astronaut who visited the Mir space station in 1992 aboard the Soyuz TM-14 mission, returning to Earth a week later aboard Soyuz TM-13. Biography Born in Büdesheim, West Germany, he joined the German Air Force after school. Educated initially as an airplane engineer, he studied aerospace engineering at Bundeswehr University Munich from 1976 to 1980. Afterwards he became a pilot. He trained as a test pilot from 1988 to 1989. In October 1990, he was selected as part of the German astronaut team for the Euromir '92 flight. After two years of training, he flew as a research cosmonaut on Soyuz TM-14 in March 1992. After his spaceflight, he returned to the German Air Force. Michael Flade (born in 1975) is a German composer. Life Born in Dessau, Flade was a pupil of Hans Jürgen Wenzel in the . From 1993 he studied musical composition with Jörg Herchet, music theory with Manfred Weiss (composer), Manfred Weiss as well as piano and conducting at the Hochschule für Musik Carl Maria von Weber in Dresden. With a DAAD scholarship he was in a master program at the Manhattan School of Music in New York, where he was taught by Nils Vigeland. From 1998 to 2001 he was a postgraduate student with Wilfried Krätzschmar in Dresden. He also studied musicology at the Martin Luther University of Halle-Wittenberg. Tina Flade
Tina Flade (9 March 1905 – 27 September 1997), born Albertine Flade, and later known as Tina Flade Mooney, was a German modern dancer. From 1934 to 1938, she taught dance at Mills College in California. Early life Flade was born in Dresden, and trained as a pianist as a young woman. She studied modern dance with Mary Wigman. Career Flade performed with Wigman's concert group in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland. She made her American debut in 1933, in New York; "she was gay, light, exuberant and altogether charming" recalled the ''New York Times'' dance critic, John Martin. She danced in Los Angeles later in 1933. "There is a woodsy, faun-like loveliness", commented the ''Los Angeles Times'' critic.
