Five Stories Falling
''Five Stories Falling'' is a five-song EP released by Thursday in 2002. The first four tracks are live versions of songs from ''Full Collapse'', recorded while the band performed on the Vans Warped Tour. The fifth track, a new song named "Jet Black New Year", quickly became popular amongst fans; the song featured Gerard Way of My Chemical Romance performing screamed background vocals. The EP also featured stories by each of the band members, including touring (and now permanent) keyboardist Andrew Everding. On their UK Tour in 2006, when introducing the song "Jet Black New Year", lead singer Geoff Rickly publicly urged the crowd present not to purchase this E.P. but to download "Jet Black New Year" instead. Geoffrey William Rickly (born March 8, 1979) is an American musician, best known as the lead singer and songwriter of rock band Thursday. Rickly is also a member of hardcore punk band United Nations, and the alternative rock group No Devotion with former members of Lostprophets, and is the founder of the record label Collect Records. Personal life Rickly was born in Providence, Rhode Island and raised in Dumont, New Jersey, into a Catholic family, and attended Dumont High School, where he was a member of the band and played the tenor sax. He was raised Catholic, Rickly is a diagnosed epileptic, which has affected his ability to tour. In early 2013, Rickly was mugged in New York City, where his cell phone, iPad, wallet, credit card, rent money, and medication were stolen. In 2015, Rickly was poisoned and robbed in Hamburg, Germany, while touring with No Devotion to play at the Reeperbahn Festival. "Understanding in a Car Crash" is a song by American post-hardcore band Thursday. It was the band's debut single and the lead single from their second album, ''Full Collapse'', in late 2001. "Understanding" was chosen for release as a single and shot by Victory Records during the band's tour with Saves the Day without Thursday's consent. The music video gained rotation on MTV2 and MMUSA upon its release in early 2002. The simple presentation features concert footage of the song's performance with shots cascading on top of one another. "Understanding" has remained perhaps the band's most well known song and a concert staple. It is usually performed together with "The Other Side of the Crash/Over and Out (Of Control)," a song from the 2006 album, '' A City by the Light Divided'', that tells the other side of the same story. ''Full Collapse'' is the second studio album by American post-hardcore band Thursday. It was released on April 10, 2001, through Victory Records, to whom the band signed after leaving Eyeball Records. With the addition of guitarist Steve Pedulla, recording sessions for the album were held in November 2000 at Big Blue Meenie Recording Studios in Jersey City. Sal Villanueva, who served as the producer, the production team and members of different bands contributed additional instrumentation to the recordings. ''Full Collapse'' is considered a post-hardcore album. Preceded by a two-month United States tour, the album's release was promoted with a short series of shows. The band toured the US in 2001, with BoySetsFire, Waterdown, Rival Schools, and Saves the Day.
