Five (group)
Five (occasionally stylised as 5ive) are an English boy band formed in 1997 consisting of members Sean Conlon, Ritchie Neville, Scott Robinson (singer), Scott Robinson, Abz Love and Jason "J" Brown. Five released several hit singles around the Turn of the century, turn of the 21st century, particularly in their native United Kingdom. The group has sold over 20 million records worldwide. Five were formed by Heart Management, who held auditions to create a boy band. The group were subsequently signed by Simon Cowell and Bertelsmann Music Group, BMG/RCA Records, RCA. In November 1997, Five released their debut single "Slam Dunk (Da Funk)", which peaked at number 10 on the UK Singles Chart. Their subsequent single, "When the Lights Go Out (song), When the Lights Go Out", became an international hit, peaking at number 10 on the Billboard Hot 100, ''Billboard'' Hot 100 in the United States, 4 in the UK, and within the top ten of six further countries. "When the Lights Go Out" is the second single released from British group Five's self-titled debut album (1998). It was released in early 1998. The song was co-written by the group alongside Eliot Kennedy, Tim Lever and Mike Percy (from the band Dead or Alive), and John McLaughlin. It was co-produced by Kennedy, Lever and Percy, with the US version receiving additional production from Cutfather & Joe. "When the Lights Go Out" is the band's only top ten hit in the United States. An alternate version of the song, in which J's rap is replaced by Abz's rap, was made exclusively for the US release; there are separate videos for each version. ''Greatest Hits'' is the first compilation album by English boy band Five. It was released in the United Kingdom through RCA Records on 19 November 2001, just three months after the release of their third studio album, '' Kingsize''. The album features thirteen of the band's fifteen singles (excluding "How Do Ya Feel" and "Don't Fight It Baby"), as well as two popular B-sides, two new remixes, and the previously unreleased "Set Me Free", which was recorded during the ''Kingsize'' album sessions.
