Fitzgerald Redlegs
The FitzGerald/FitzMaurice Dynasty is a noble and aristocratic dynasty of Cambro-Normans, Cambro-Norman, Anglo-Normans, Anglo-Norman and later Hiberno-Norman origin. They have been Peerage of Ireland, peers of Ireland since at least the 13th century, and are described in the Annals of the Four Masters as having become "more Irish than the Irish themselves" or Gaels, due to assimilation with the native Gaelic aristocratic and popular culture. The dynasty has also been referred to as the Geraldines and Ireland's largest landowners. They achieved power through the conquest of large swathes of Irish territory by the sons and grandsons of Gerald de Windsor, Gerald of Windsor (c. 1075 – 1135). The Gherardinis of Montagliari (or Florence) are one of the most prominent historical Noble family from Tuscany, Italy. Through the Amidei, the family was of Roman descent. Between the 9th and 14th centuries, they played an important role in Tuscany. Its influence was also felt in the Veneto and Emilia regions between the 16th and 18th centuries and during the Italian Risorgimento as well as in today's Italian politics and economy.
