Fishkill is a town in the southwestern part of Dutchess County, New York, United States. It lies approximately north of New York City. The population was 22,107 at the 2010 census. Fishkill surrounds the city of Beacon, and contains a village, which is also named Fishkill. The name Fishkill derives from the Dutch words ''vis kill'', meaning "fish creek". The location of Fishkill was known as ''Tioranda'' by the Native American peoples. The name means "The place where two waters meet". Fishkill is one of the nine original towns in Dutchess County, and is best known today for its rich history dating to the American Revolutionary War period and scenic views of the Hudson Highlands. East Fishkill is a town on the southern border of Dutchess County, New York, United States. The population was 29,707 at the 2020 census. The town was once the eastern portion of the town of Fishkill. Hudson Valley Research Park is located in the town. The site once known as IBM East Fishkill, once housed 27 divisions and 4,700 regular employees for IBM Microelectronics, which latter became a part of GlobalFoundries. IBM produced microchips at this facility and it also house the advanced, automated processor fabrication facility where IBM's "Cell" processor was co-developed. Fishkill Correctional Facility
Fishkill Correctional Facility is a multi-security level prison in New York, United States. The prison is located in both the Town of Fishkill and the City of Beacon in Dutchess County. Fishkill was constructed in 1896. It began as the Matteawan State Hospital for the Criminally Insane. As a minimum security facility, it houses both inmates that work outside the facility on behalf of the prison and inmates that are in the work release temporary release program. As a medium security facility it houses general population and Office of Mental Health inmates. As a maximum security facility it houses inmates under disciplinary segregation in the S-Block Special Housing Unit. Fishkill also houses the Regional Medical Unit for Southern New York's prisons. Fishkill Creek (also Fish Kill, from the Dutch ''vis kille'', for "fish creek") is a tributary of the Hudson River in Dutchess County, New York, United States. At U.S. Geological Survey. Fishkill Farms is a farm located in East Fishkill in Dutchess County, New York. It is of historic significance primarily because its founder Henry Morgenthau, Jr. and his wife, Elinor Morgenthau were close and enduring family friends of Franklin D. Roosevelt and Eleanor Roosevelt. Eleanor Roosevelt wrote, "They were our neighbors in the country and we enjoyed them as neighbors and friends before politics and work for different social aims came into our relationship.
