Fishbein Trophy
The Fishbein Trophy is awarded to the player who wins the greatest number of masterpoints at the summer American Contract Bridge League (ACBL) North American Bridge Championship (NABC). History The Fishbein Trophy was donated by the ACBL in memory of Sally Fishbein and in recognition of the untiring efforts of Harry Fishbein, who served as ACBL Treasurer and refused to accept the customary compensation. Masterpoints
Masterpoints or master points are points awarded by bridge organizations to individuals for success in competitive bridge tournaments run under their auspices. Generally, recipients must be members in good standing of the issuing organization. At the international level, competitions and point awards are administered by the World Bridge Federation (WBF); its affiliates at the multi-national level, such as the American Contract Bridge League (ACBL), also issue points as do more local organizations such as the English Bridge Union (EBU), and the Deutsche Bridge Verband (DBV) and independent ones such as the American Bridge Association (ABA). In general, each organization has its own scheme for the categorization of competitive bridge events and has a parallel scheme for awarding various categories of points to players who are successful in them. Bobby Wolff
Robert S. (Bobby) Wolff (born October 14, 1932, San Antonio, Texas) is an American bridge player, writer, and administrator. He is the only person to win world championships in five different categories. He is a graduate of Trinity University. Wolff was an original member of the Dallas Aces team, which was formed in 1968 to compete against the Italian Blue Team which was dominant at the time. The Aces were successful and won their first world championship in 1970. Wolff has won 11 world championships, over 30 North American championships, and was the president of World Bridge Federation (WBF) 1992–1994, and served as president of American Contract Bridge League (ACBL) 1987. He is the author of a tell-all on bridge chronicling 60 years on the scene, entitled ''The Lone Wolff'', published by Master Point Press. Lynn Deas
Lynn Davis Deas (June 16, 1952 – May 10, 2020) was a professional American bridge player. At the time of her death, she was second in the World Bridge Federation (WBF) All time Women Ranking by Placement Points, which do not decay over time. Deas was a native of Newport News, Virginia, near Norfolk, where she was a student at Eastern Virginia Medical School when she suffered a bad automobile accident in 1980. Already an avid bridge player, she played "all the time" when broken bones and blurry vision forced her to take one-year leave from school, and subsequently decided to drop out in favor of the card game as a career. Deas won 27 North American Bridge Championships (NABC) titles and nine world championships, including three in the Venice Cup. At one time Deas ranked first among Women World Grand Masters. Juanita Chambers (1956–2016) was a professional United States, American Contract bridge, bridge player from Schenectady, New York. She was world champion three times. Born Juanita Tah in Ponca City, Oklahoma, to an Apache father. She married Neil Chambers in 1983. She also competed as Juanita Skelton. Chambers died on July 29, 2016, in Dallas at age 60. Eric Rodwell
Eric Victor Rodwell (born May 1, 1957) is an American professional bridge player. He has won the Bermuda Bowl representing the United States five times and is one of ten players who have won the triple crown of bridge: the Bermuda Bowl, the World Open Pairs and the World Team Olympiad. Personal life Rodwell was born in San Francisco, California and his family moved to West Lafayette, Indiana in 1965 where his father was a professor of biochemistry at Purdue University. He started playing bridge at the age of eleven by reading books and playing with his parents. Rodwell graduated from West Lafayette High School in 1974 and attended Purdue, graduating with a master's degree in finance in 1981. Mike Becker was born in 1943 and is an American Contract bridge, bridge player and official. Becker is from Boca Raton, Florida. He is a son of B. Jay Becker. As of 1979, Becker and Ron Rubin (bridge), Ron Rubin were partners in a New York City Option (finance), options firm and at the bridge table. Becker trained more than 50 bridge players, 15 of whom were national champions. At bridge they used a strong one-club, relay bidding system that they called "the Ultimate Club".
