First Baptist Church Of Orange
The First Baptist Church of Orange (also known as First Missionary Baptist Church; Antioch Baptist Church) is a historic Baptist church building at 192 S. Orange Street in Orange, California. The building is currently owned by Avila's El Ranchito, a Mexican restaurant chain based in Orange County. The church was built in 1893 and modified in 1912 in a Queen Anne— Carpenter Gothic style. The building stopped operating as a church in 1992. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1996. Orange is a city located in North Orange County, California. It is approximately north of the county seat, Santa Ana, California, Santa Ana. Orange is unusual in this region because many of the homes in its Old Town District were built before 1920. Queen Anne Style Architecture In The United States
Queen Anne style architecture was one of a number of popular Victorian architectural styles that emerged in the United States during the period from roughly 1880 to 1910. Popular there during this time, it followed the Second Empire and Stick styles and preceded the Richardsonian Romanesque and Shingle styles. Sub-movements of Queen Anne include the Eastlake movement. Carpenter Gothic, also sometimes called Carpenter's Gothic or Rural Gothic, is a North American architectural style-designation for an application of Gothic Revival architectural detailing and picturesque massing applied to wooden structures built by house-carpenters. The abundance of North American timber and the carpenter-built vernacular architectures based upon it made a picturesque improvisation upon Gothic a natural evolution.
