The First Baptist Church is a Baptist church congregation currently meeting at 360 Canco Road in Portland, Maine. It met for many years in a now-demolished 1867 church building on Congress Street, where the Top of the Old Port Parking Lot is now located. That building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1978, and was removed in 2015. Congress Street (Portland, Maine)
Congress Street is the main street in Portland, Maine. Congress stretches from Portland's southwestern border with Westbrook through a number of neighborhoods before ending overlooking the Eastern Promenade on Munjoy Hill. In March 2009, the Portland City Council designated much of the inner portion of Congress Street an historic district. The western section of the street includes the city's Arts District. Demolition (also known as razing, cartage, and wrecking) is the science and engineering in safely and efficiently tearing down of buildings and other artificial structures. Demolition contrasts with deconstruction, which involves taking a building apart while carefully preserving valuable elements for reuse purposes.
