Firebase Jay
Firebase Jay is a former U.S. Army firebase northwest of Tây Ninh in southwest Vietnam. History The firebase was first established in March 1970 by the 7th Cavalry Regiment, 45 km northwest of Núi Bà Đen and approximately 5 km from the Cambodian border. On 29 March 1970 the base was occupied by Companies A and E, 2nd Battalion, 7th Cavalry, B Battery, 2nd Battalion, 12th Artillery and B Battery, 2nd Battalion, 19th Artillery. 7th Cavalry Regiment
The 7th Cavalry Regiment is a United States Army cavalry regiment formed in 1866. Its official nickname is "Garryowen", after the Ireland, Irish air "Garryowen (air), Garryowen" that was adopted as its march tune. The regiment participated in some of the largest battles of the Indian Wars, including its famous defeat at the Battle of Little Bighorn, where its commander Lieutenant Colonel George A. Custer was killed. The regiment also committed the Wounded Knee Massacre, where more than 250 men, women and children of the Lakota people, Lakota were killed. Fire Support Base
A fire support base (FSB, firebase or FB) is a temporary military encampment to provide artillery fire support to infantry operating in areas beyond the normal range of fire support from their own base camps. FSBs follow a number of plans, their shape and construction varying based on the terrain they occupy and the projected garrison. Widely used during the Vietnam War, the concept continues to be used in military operations. Under the original concept of the artillery fire support base, a 6-gun battery set up with one howitzer in the center to fire illumination rounds during night attacks and serve as the base's main registration gun. The other 5 howitzers were arranged around it in a "star" pattern. Black Virgin Mountain
Black Virgin Mountain ( vi, Núi Bà Đen meaning "Black Lady Mountain", km, Phnom Chol Baden) is a mountain in Tây Ninh City, Vietnam. The mountain is the center of a Vietnamese myth about ''Bà Đen'', a local deity of Khmer origin. During the Vietnam War the area around the mountain was a hot zone as the Ho Chi Minh Trail ended a few kilometers west across the Cambodian border. The 12th Field Artillery Regiment is a unit of the United States Army. Distinctive insignia Description and symbolism The unit's insignia is a gold color metal and enamel device 1 inch (2.54 cm) in height overall consisting of a shield blazoned: Gules, a Fleur-de-lis Argent crowned Or; on a canton of the like an Aztec banner Vert garnished of the second. The single fleur-de-lis of silver is taken from the arms of Soissons, where the regiment performed such distinguished service that it was cited by the French in Orders of the Army, shown by the pendant Croix de guerre.
