Finn Thrana
Finn Thrana (8 March 1915, Søndre Land – 21 January 2006) was a Norwegian barrister and civil servant for Nasjonal Samling. He was a jurist by education, having graduated from the Royal Frederick University in 1938. From the same year he worked as a junior solicitor in Gjøvik. He was a member of Quisling's Fascist party Nasjonal Samling from 1934. In 1940, after the occupation of Norway by Nazi Germany had started, Nasjonal Samling became the only legal party in Norway. In the autumn of 1940 Thrana negotiated for his party with the Norwegian Agrarian Association. In 1941 he was hired as assistant secretary in the Secretariat of the Government, and in 1942 he was promoted to secretary of the government. In this position, he had responsibility for the government's protocols, public announcements and job appointments. He also had responsibility for the office that reviewed pleas in criminal cases. Søndre Land is a municipality in Innlandet county, Norway. It is located in the traditional district of Land. The administrative centre of the municipality is the village of Hov. Legal Purge In Norway After World War II
The purge in Norway after World War II was a purge that took place between May 1945 and August 1948 against anyone who was deemed to have collaborated with the German occupation of the country. Several thousand Norwegians and foreign citizens were tried and convicted for crimes committed in Scandinavia during the Second World War. However, the scope, legal basis, and fairness of these trials has since been a matter of some debate. A total of 40 people—including Vidkun Quisling, the Prime Minister of Norway during the occupation—were executed after capital punishment was reinstated in Norway. Thirty-seven of those executed were executed under Norwegian law, while the other three were executed under Allied military law. A further five were sentenced to death and executed in Poland for their actions in Norway. Ole Kristian Grimnes (born 4 January 1937, in Tromsø) is a Norwegian historian. Die Throw (review)
The "die throw" ( no, terningkast) is a method of review which is often used in Norway. It is characterized by the use of a white-on-red die graphic to represent the movie's rating in the review, and is similar to stars or letters used in other countries. The format was introduced by film director and then-film critic Arne Skouen, who, writing for ''Verdens Gang'' on 31 March 1952, stated the need of "having a film première characterized in a short, concise form". To do this, he used a standard die with six pips, where one marked the lowest possible rating of a film, and six marked the highest. In some cases, a die with zero pips has been used, meaning awful. Similarly, people sometimes allude to "seven pips", meaning extraordinarily good. Usage In time, the die throw spread to other parts of the media. Yngvar Ustvedt
Yngvar Ustvedt (8 April 1928 – 29 January 2007) was a Norwegian writer, biographer, literary researcher, literary critic, theatre critic and radio personality. Personal life Ustvedt was born in Tromsø, as the son of medical doctor and broadcasting administrator Hans Jacob Ustvedt, and Ingrid With. He was a grandson of Nils Yngvar Ustvedt. He married Lajla Margrete Gedde-Dahl in 1954, and librarian Tordis Seippel in 1969. Career Ustvedt took his examen artium in 1946, and after studies at the University of Oslo, he became a cand.philol. in 1955. While being a student, he chaired the Norwegian Students' Society, in 1954. He lectured on Norwegian language and literature at the Sorbonne from 1958 to 1961. Vi Vil Oss Et Land
"Vi vil oss et land" (lit. 'We Want Ourselves a Country') is a famous phrase in the context of Norwegian nationalism, derived from a poem by Per Sivle. It has been evoked by many different groups, including during the occupation of Norway by Nazi Germany, when an arrest order was issued on the deceased Sivle. Original use It is taken from a poem by Per Sivle (1857–1904) issued in 1895, ten years before Norway gained its independence. Sivle's poem, titled "Vi vil os et Land -", was published in the poetry collection '' Bersøglis- og andre Viser'' from 1895. It was originally written as the last verse of the occasional poem "Her spirer i Norge", written for a procession in support of universal male suffrage organized by Kristiania Liberal Party in 1894.
