Finke, Northern Territory
Aputula (formerly Finke until the 1980s) is a remote Indigenous Australian community in the Northern Territory of Australia. It is south of Alice Springs and east of Kulgera roadhouse on the Stuart Highway, near the border with South Australia. Roger Finke
Roger Finke is a Professor of Sociology and Religious Studies at The Pennsylvania State University and Director of the Association of Religion Data Archives. He is a former president of the Association for the Sociology of Religion. Career Roger Finke earned his doctorate in sociology at the University of Washington in 1984, and held faculty positions at Concordia College in Illinois, Loyola University of Chicago, and Purdue University before joining the faculty at The Pennsylvania State University in 2000. Thomas Fincke
Thomas Fincke (6 January 1561 – 24 April 1656) was a Danish mathematician and physicist, and a professor at the University of Copenhagen for more than 60 years. Biography Thomas Jacobsen Fincke was born in Flensburg in Schleswig. Fincke was the son of Councillor Jacob Fincke and Anna Thorsmede. He completed his primary schooling at Flensburg. From 1577, he studied mathematics, rhetoric and other philosophical studies for five years at the University of Strasbourg. Fincke's lasting achievement is found in his book ''Geometria rotundi'' (1583), in which he introduced the modern names of the trigonometric functions tangent and secant. In 1590, he became professor of mathematics at the University of Copenhagen. In 1603 he also obtained a professorship in medicine. Michael Fincke
Edward Michael "Mike"/"Spanky" Fincke (born March 14, 1967) is an American astronaut who formerly held the American record for the most time in space (381.6 days). His record was broken by Scott Kelly on October 16, 2015. Mike Fincke was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, but considers its suburb Emsworth to be his hometown. He is a retired United States Air Force officer and an active NASA astronaut. So far he served two tours aboard the International Space Station as a flight engineer and Commander. He flew on one Space Shuttle mission, STS-134 as a Mission Specialist. Fincke is conversant in Japanese and Russian. He is married to Renita Saikia, and together they have three children; son Chandra and daughters Tarali and Surya. George Fincke
George Brian Fincke (November 21, 1953 – December 3, 2016) was an American Anglican bishop of the Reformed Episcopal Church (REC). Early life Fincke was born to a Presbyterian minister, the Rev. George W. Fincke Jr., and Mary Louise Patterson Fincke in Camden, New Jersey, in 1953. Ministry career He was ordained as a presbyter in 1981 and was received into the Reformed Episcopal Church in 1986. He had an M.Div. from Reformed Episcopal Seminary and served in the Diocese of the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic before his election as bishop ordinary of the nascent Missionary Diocese of the West. In addition to serving as a bishop, Fincke also served as a parish pastor in California. In October 2000, Fincke suffered a stroke and was substantially disabled. As a result, his office as bishop ordinary of the Missionary Diocese of the West was declared vacant. Gödik Fincke
Gödik Gustafsson Fincke (c. 1546–1617) was a Finnish-born member of the Swedish nobility and military officer who served as the stadtholder of Olavinlinna Castle. Life During the Livonian War he served in the Swedish military and was severely wounded 1573 in a battle by the Koluvere Castle in Estonia. Fincke was then transferred to administrative duties. In 1582 he was named as the stadtholder of the Olavinlinna Castle in Savonia. In 1596–1597 Fincke took part in suppressing the revolting Finnish peasants in the Cudgel War. In the 1598–1599 War against Sigismund, Olavinlinna became the last stronghold of Sigismund's supporters as his brother Sten Fincke fled to the castle. Olavinlinna soon surrendered to the troops of Charles IX without any resistance, Sten was executed in the Åbo bloodbath and Gödik expelled of his post. William Finke
William Finke (1814 or 1815 – 17 January 1864) was a prospector and pastoralist in South Australia, remembered as a sponsor of John McDouall Stuart's exploratory journeys, along with the Chambers brothers. History Finke, who may have been born Johann Wilhelm Finke from Cuxhaven in Germany, arrived in South Australia aboard the ''Tam O'Shanter'' in November 1836 as part of the First Fleet of South Australia. He was a member of a syndicate with Osmond Gilles, the first colonial treasurer, his nephew John Jackson Oakden and three others who entered the ballot in February 1839 for the right to purchase land in Glenelg, in which they were successful. Finke is shown as "chief clerk of the Treasury" in the public notice of the ballot. Finke had been appointed chief clerk to Gilles, and in 1839 was put in charge of mining galena for his Glen Osmond Union Mining Company, the first mine for metal-bearing ores in South Australia and perhaps Australia. Volker Finke (born 24 March 1948) is a German football manager. He was the coach of SC Freiburg for 16 years. Coaching career On 6 December 2008, Japanese club Urawa Red Diamonds announced they signed a contract with Finke as head coach until 2010. On 18 December 2010, Finke was named as the new director of sport by 1. FC Köln effective on 1 February 2011. Effective on 27 April 2011, Finke additionally became interim coach until the end of the season. On 10 March 2012, Köln parted company with Finke by mutual consent after a 1–0 win over Hertha BSC.
