''Final Girls'' is a 2017 thriller novel by Todd Ritter, writing under the penname Riley Sager. Synopsis Ten years ago, Quincy Carpenter joined her friends in a vacation at Pinewood Cottage. The trip ended with a massacre, of which Quincy was the sole survivor. She was saved by Franklin “Coop” Cooper, the police officer who responded to the scene. Joe Hannen, an escaped mental patient who arrived at their camp, is blamed for the murders. The press dubs Quincy a " final girl," comparing her to two other final girls; Lisa Milner and Samantha "Sam" Boyd. Quincy is contacted by Lisa, and the two begin communicating with each other, albeit very infrequently. Lisa does not have a similar relationship with Sam. Todd Ritter, also known under the nom de plume of Riley Sager and Alan Finn, is an American author of thriller novels. Biography Ritter grew up in a ranch-style house in Pennsylvania. Before becoming a full-time novelist Ritter worked as a journalist, editor and graphic designer. Writing career As of 2022 Ritter has released six novels as Sager and three novels under his real name, the latter of which make up the Kat Campbell series. Ritter has also released one novel under the pen name Alan Finn, ''Things Half in Shadow''. He referenced the choice to write under the name Sager, stating that "since we were looking for a new publisher, one could argue that editors would be willing to go with someone who had a clean slate, rather than a critically acclaimed author with a spotty sales record." E. P. Dutton was an American book publishing company. It was founded as a book retailer in Boston, Massachusetts, in 1852 by Edward Payson Dutton. Since 1986, it has been an imprint of Penguin Group. Final Girl
The final girl is a trope in horror films (particularly slasher films). It refers to the last girl(s) or woman alive to confront the killer, ostensibly the one left to tell the story. The final girl has been observed in many films, including ''The Texas Chain Saw Massacre'', ''Halloween'', ''Alien'', '' Friday the 13th'', ''A Nightmare on Elm Street'', ''Scream'' and ''Train to Busan''. The term was coined by Carol J. Clover in her book '' Men, Women, and Chainsaws: Gender in the Modern Horror Film'' (1992). Clover suggested that in these films, the viewer began by sharing the perspective of the killer, but experienced a shift in identification to the final girl partway through the film.
