Fin De Siècle (album)
''Fin de Siècle'' is the sixth album by Northern Irish Pop music, pop band the Divine Comedy (band), the Divine Comedy. It was released on 31 August 1998 by Setanta Records. Following the release of fifth studio album ''A Short Album About Love'' (1997), frontman Neil Hannon demoed new material at his flat in Clapham. During this time, the relationship between the band and their label Setanta Records was straining as a result of heated discussions over tour costs and studio sessions. They recorded their next album in three studios (September Sound, Olympic Studios, Olympic and The Dairy) with Jon Jacobs as the main producer and Hannon co-producing. ''Fin de Siècle'' is a chamber pop concept album that details living in the 20th century. The Divine Comedy (band)
The Divine Comedy are a pop band from Northern Ireland, formed in 1989 and fronted by Neil Hannon. Hannon has been the only constant member of the group, playing, in some instances, all of the non-orchestral instrumentation except drums. The band has released 12 studio albums. Between 1996 and 1999, nine singles released by the band made the UK Top 40, including the 1999 top-ten hit "National Express". It runs the BRIT Awards, the Classic BRIT Awards, National Album Day, is home to the Mercury Prize, and co-owns the Official Charts Company with the Entertainment Retailers Association, and awards UK music sales through the BRIT Certified Awards. Death Of Diana, Princess Of Wales
In the early hours of 31 August 1997, Diana, Princess of Wales died from injuries sustained earlier that day in a car crash in the Pont de l'Alma tunnel in Paris, France. Dodi Fayed, Diana's partner, and Henri Paul, their chauffeur, were found dead inside the car. Her bodyguard Trevor Rees-Jones was seriously injured but was the only survivor of the crash. Some media claimed that the erratic behaviour of the paparazzi chasing the car, as reported by the BBC, had contributed to the crash. In 1999, a French investigation found that Paul lost control of the vehicle at high speed while intoxicated by alcohol and under the effects of prescription drugs, and concluded that he was solely responsible for the crash. Tabloid (newspaper Format)
A tabloid is a newspaper with a compact page size smaller than broadsheet. There is no standard size for this newspaper format. Etymology The word ''tabloid'' comes from the name given by the London-based pharmaceutical company Burroughs Wellcome & Co. to the compressed tablets they marketed as "Tabloid" pills in the late 1880s. The connotation of ''tabloid'' was soon applied to other small compressed items. A 1902 item in London's ''Westminster Gazette'' noted, "The proprietor intends to give in tabloid form all the news printed by other journals." Thus ''tabloid journalism'' in 1901, originally meant a paper that condensed stories into a simplified, easily absorbed format. Noel Scott Engel (January 9, 1943 – March 22, 2019), better known by his stage name Scott Walker, was an American-British singer-songwriter, composer and record producer who resided in England. Walker was known for his emotive voice and his unorthodox stylistic path which took him from being a teen pop icon in the 1960s to an avant-garde musician in the 21st century. ''Overboard!'' (''Shipwreckers!'' in North America) is a top-down adventure game, released by Psygnosis for the PlayStation and Microsoft Windows in October 1997. It employs a light-hearted, all-ages piratical theme. A relatively low-key release for Psygnosis, the game was met with mixed reviews. Gameplay The player controls a pirate ship, shown to be crewed by three pirates in cutscenes. In gameplay, when the ship catches on fire the pirates jump overboard until the lifebar becomes empty. The game is sometimes referred to as a strategy game, but it is primarily an adventure game. ''Overboard!'' also features a multiplayer mode for up to five players (requires the multitap adapter) in which the opponents compete to sink other players’ ships. ''Comes with a Smile'' was a quarterly music-focused fanzine published in the United Kingdom between June 1997 and February 2006. The title originates from a lyric in Red House Painters' song "24". The Official Charts (legal name: The Official UK Charts Company Limited) is a British inter-professional organization that compiles various "official" record charts in the United Kingdom, Ireland and France.
