Dexter Filkins
Dexter Price Filkins (born May 24, 1961) is an American journalist known primarily for his coverage of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan for ''The New York Times''. He was a finalist for a Pulitzer Prize in 2002 for his dispatches from Afghanistan, and won a Pulitzer in 2009 as part of a team of ''Times'' reporters for their dispatches from Pakistan and Afghanistan. He has been called "the premier combat journalist of his generation". He currently writes for ''The New Yorker.'' Background Filkins received a B.A. in political science from the University of Florida in 1983, and a Master of Philosophy in international relations from Oxford University (1984), where he was a student of St Antony's College. Leslie William Filkins, Jr. (born September 14, 1956 in Chicago, Illinois) is a former professional baseball outfielder who played professionally from 1975 to 1983. Filkins was drafted by the Detroit Tigers with the third pick of the 1975 Major League Baseball Draft. He played in Detroit's minor league system from 1975 until 1982. He made it as far as Triple A. He batted .255 in his 8 years in the minors, with 60 home runs and 328 runs batted in. Perry Filkins (born April 3, 1988) is an American professional mixed martial artist who competed in Bellator MMA, Bellator's Middleweight (MMA), Middleweight division. Background Filkins is originally from Millington, Michigan and came from a dysfunctional home. His father was a truck driver, so as a result the young Filkins would often have to fend for himself from a young age. Athletic, Filkins played various sports at Millington High School, being the quarterback for the football team while also competing in wrestling. Filkins also enjoyed BMX and won a national title in the sport in 2007. After graduating, a former wrestling coach opened an MMA gym and invited Filkins to train.
