Filiatra
Filiatra ( el, Φιλιατρά), is a town and a former municipality in Messenia, Peloponnese, Greece. Since the 2011 local government reform it is part of the municipality Trifylia, of which it is a municipal unit. The municipal unit has an area of 114.877 km2. Filiatra is situated near the Ionian Sea coast in western Messenia. It is located 11 km northwest of Gargalianoi, 13 km southwest of Kyparissia, 29 km northwest of Pylos and 49 km west of Kalamata. The Greek National Road 9 ( Patras - Pyrgos - Kyparissia - Pylos) passes through the town. Filiatra was founded around the 12th and the 13th centuries. It was built near the site of the ancient city Erana. Filiatra has several schools, churches and shops. A scaled reproduction of the Eiffel Tower stands at the entrance to the village. Sotiris Liberopoulos ( el, Σωτήρης Λυμπερόπουλος; born 29 June 1977) is a Greek former professional footballer who played as a goalkeeper. Biography Sotiris Liberopoulos was born in Filiatra in western Messinia and began his career from the local team Erani along with his famous cousin Nikos. Later on, he played with Kalamata where he became one of the most famous players and entered the U-21 team. With Kalamata, he began his debut in the First Division on 14 January 1996 against Apollon in Rizoupoli. Plati ( el, Πλάτη, before 1956: Καναλουπού - ''Kanaloupou'') is a village in the municipal unit of Filiatra, Messenia, Greece. It is situated at the western foot of the Kyparissia Mountains, at an elevation of . It is southwest of Perdikoneri, east of Filiatra and south of Kyparissia. Nikolaos "Nikos" Liberopoulos ( el, Νίκος Λυμπερόπουλος; born on 4 August 1975) is a retired Greek former professional international footballer who played as a forward. He is famous for his aim-to-goal shot, his innate in-play instincts, and his technical attacking skills. Liberopoulos is a unique player in Greek domestic football, as he is equally adored by fans of both AEK Athens and Panathinaikos. Nikolaos Frousos (Greek: Νικόλαος Φρούσος; born 29 April 1974) is a former Greek footballer who played for Cyprus giants Anorthosis Famagusta. Erana (Messenia)
Erana ( grc, ἡ Ἔρανα) was a town in ancient Messenia, Greece, mentioned by Strabo as lying upon the road between Cyparissia and Pylus. According to Strabo, it was erroneously identified by some with the Homeric Arene. It was located near the present town Filiatra, in an area that is now known as Agia Kyriaki. Exochiko ( el, Εξοχικό, before 1957: Κατσίμπαλης – ''Katsimpalis'') is a village in the municipal unit of Filiatra in western Messenia, Greece. Its population is 179 people (2011 census). Exochiko is situated near the Ionian Sea coast, at 60 m elevation. It is 4 km north of Filiatra, 10 km southwest of Kyparissia and 50 km northwest of Kalamata. Messenia or Messinia ( ; el, Μεσσηνία ) is a regional unit (''perifereiaki enotita'') in the southwestern part of the Peloponnese region, in Greece. Kyparissia
Kyparissia ( el, Κυπαρισσία) is a town and a former municipality in northwestern Messenia, Peloponnese, Greece. Since the 2011 local government reform it is part of the municipality Trifylia, of which it is the seat and a municipal unit. The municipal unit has an area of 101.018 km2. The town proper has around 5,100 inhabitants. Geography The town is situated on the Gulf of Kyparissia, a bay of the Ionian Sea, one of the main breeding grounds of the endangered loggerhead sea turtle. Pylos (, ; el, Πύλος), historically also known as Navarino, is a town and a former municipality in Messenia, Peloponnese, Greece.
