Filene Research Institute
The Filene Research Institute is an American credit union and consumer finance think tank headquartered in Madison, Wisconsin. History and objective Founded in 1989, it is committed to research and innovation to further the credit union movement and support consumer financial wellbeing. The institute is named for Edward Filene, a Boston, Massachusetts-based businessman and philanthropist who was instrumental in the creation of credit unions in the U.S. In 1993, the institute published a research report on the evolution of credit union field of membership, helping to lay the groundwork for H.R 1151, the Credit Union Membership Access Act. In 2003, the institute started the REAL Solutions project to study financial services for low-income households and address predatory lending and other fringe financial services. Peter Tufano
Peter Tufano (born 1957) was the dean of the Saïd Business School at the University of Oxford until 2021 before being replaced by Sue Dopson as interim acting dean. Before moving to Oxford in 2011, he spent over three decades at Harvard University where he completed his AB in Economics, MBA and PhD in Business Economics, as well as spending 22 years on the faculty. Biography Tufano graduated from Harvard University where he obtained his AB (1979), MBA (1984) and PhD (1989) degrees. His academic research has primarily been focused around consumer finance, where he has been on forefront of advancing the academic field. Hayagriva, also spelled Hayagreeva ( sa, हयग्रीव IAST , ), is a Hindus, Hindu deity, the horse-headed avatar of Vishnu. William M. Maurer (born March 31, 1968) is an American academic scholar of legal and economic anthropology. He currently serves as the dean of the School of Social Sciences at the University of California, Irvine. He has conducted research on money, finance, economy, and law, including the off-shore financial services industry in the Caribbean, alternative currencies, Islamic finance, mobile money, and traditional and emerging payment technologies, as well as cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin and related blockchain technologies. He has been called the “doyen” of the subfield of the anthropology of finance.
