Figure Skating At The 1956 Winter Olympics – Pair Skating
The figure skating pairs competition at the 1956 Winter Olympics took place on 3–4 February. The Austria at the 1956 Winter Olympics, Austrian pair of Sissy Schwarz / Kurt Oppelt won the competition. Pairs from Canada at the 1956 Winter Olympics, Canada and Hungary at the 1956 Winter Olympics, Hungary took second and third respectively. The pairs competition was the last figure skating event of the Olympics. It was held out doors at the Stadio Olimpico Del Ghiaccio, Olympic Ice Stadium in Cortina d'Ampezzo, Italy, the host city for the Games. Sissy Schwarz
Elisabeth "Sissy" Schwarz (born 19 May 1936) is an Austrian former figure skater who is best known for her career in pair skating. With Kurt Oppelt, she is the 1956 Olympic champion, the 1956 World champion, the 1956 European champion, and a five-time Austrian national champion (1952–56). Skating career Single skating Schwarz competed in single skating for a few years. She took the silver medal at the 1952 Austrian Championships, placed 19th at the 1952 Winter Olympics, and finished ninth at the 1953 European Championships. She never competed at the World Championships as a singles skater. Pair skating Her partner in pair skating was Kurt Oppelt. Franz Ningel
Franz Ningel (born 18 October 1936 in Frankfurt) is a former German pair skater and roller skater. Ningel became World and European champion as a single roller figure skater in 1956 and 1957. He also won the German roller figure skating pair championships with Marika Kilius from 1955 to 1957. In pairs figure skating, Kilius / Ningel became the 1957 World silver and 1956 World bronze medalists, three-time (1955–195) European bronze medalists, and three-time German national champions. Patricia Krau
Carolyn Patricia Krau (born 18 August 1943) is a British former competitive figure skater. She competed in pair skating at the 1956 Winter Olympics and in ladies' singles at the 1960 Winter Olympics. Career Pair skating In the 1955–56 season, Krau and her partner, Rodney Ward, won the national junior pairs' title and finished second on the senior level at the British Championships. After placing 9th at the 1956 European Championships in Paris, they competed at the 1956 Winter Olympics in Cortina d'Ampezzo, where they finished 11th. They placed 9th at their final event of the season, the 1956 World Championships in Garmisch-Partenkirchen. Věra Suchánková-Hamplová (29 October 1932 – 12 February 2004) was a Czech pair skater who competed internationally for Czechoslovakia. With her skating partner, Zdeněk Doležal, she was the 1958 World silver medalist and a two-time European champion (1957, 1958). They represented Czechoslovakia at the 1956 Winter Olympics and placed 8th. Suchánková was born on 29 October 1932 in Pardubice. Her sports club was Rapid Pardubice.
