Fighter (2000 Film)
''Fighter'' is a documentary film about Arnošt Lustig (1926–2011) and Jan Wiener (1920–2010), two Jews who return to Europe to revisit the past. A survivor of Theresienstadt, Auschwitz, and Buchenwald, Lustig was a Prague-based journalist and author. The German-born Wiener escaped from Nazi-occupied Czechoslovakia, and joined the Royal Air Force in Italy. The film retraces Wiener's escape route, and visits Theresienstadt (where Wiener's mother died), Auschwitz, and Buchenwald. Amir Bar-Lev
Amir Bar-Lev (born 1972) is an American film director, producer and writer from Berkeley, California. Bar-Lev is noted for his work in directing documentary films. He has directed such films as ''Fighter'', a documentary film released August 24, 2001. The film received a Special Jury Citation in the 2000 Karlovy Vary International Film Festival. The 2007 documentary film ''My Kid Could Paint That'' was directed by Bar-Lev, and premiered at the Sundance Film Festival. The film was bought by Sony Pictures Classics in 2007. He also served as co-producer of the 2009 Oscar nominated documentary ''Trouble the Water.'' Bar-Lev also directed ''The Tillman Story'', which premiered as a Domestic Documentary Finalist at the 2010 Sundance Film Festival. The Royal Air Force (RAF) is the United Kingdom's air and space force. The Hamptons International Film Festival (HIFF) is an international film festival founded in 1992, by Joyce Robinson. The festival has since taken place every year in East Hampton, New York. It is usually an annual five-day event in mid-October and is held in theatre venues located in the Long Island area of New York, United States. Arnošt Lustig
Arnošt Lustig (; 21 December 1926 – 26 February 2011) was a renowned Czech Republic, Czech Jewish author of novels, short stories, Play (theatre), plays, and screenplays whose works have often involved the Holocaust. Life and work Lustig was born in Prague. As a Jewish boy in Czechoslovakia during World War II, he was sent in 1942 to the Theresienstadt concentration camp, from where he was later transported to the Auschwitz concentration camp, followed by time in the Buchenwald concentration camp. In 1945, he escaped from a train carrying him to the Dachau concentration camp when the engine was destroyed by an American fighter-bomber. He returned to Prague in time to take part in the May 1945 Prague uprising, uprising against the German occupation. After the war, he studied journalism at Charles University in Prague and then worked for a number of years at Radio Prague.
