Fife Lake (Michigan)
Fife Lake ( ) is a lake in the Lower Peninsula of the U.S. state of Michigan. Located primarily in Fife Lake Township, Grand Traverse County, a small portion extends east into Springfield Township, Kalkaska County. The eponymous village of Fife Lake lies upon the lake's northern and western shores. The lake and village are named for William H. Fife, a postmaster from Yuba, elsewhere in Grand Traverse County. Fife Lake is part of the Manistee River watershed. Water from Fife Lake crosses south into Wexford County before encountering the Manistee River, where it flows west to Lake Michigan. Fife Lake, Michigan
Fife Lake ( ) is a village in southeastern Grand Traverse County in the U.S. state of Michigan. Its population was 456 at the 2020 census, up from 443 at the 2010 census. The village is part of the Traverse City micropolitan area, and lies upon the shore of the lake of the same name. History In 1872, J.L. Shaw and others platted two small settlements on a lake on the new Grand Rapids and Indiana Railroad. These were known as North Fife Lake and Fyfe Lake (a misspelling of Fife), which were on the north and west sides of Fife Lake, respectively. Later that year, Fife Lake Township was created. The first church in the village was established in 1884. In 1889, Fife Lake was incorporated as a village. The village annually hosts the Fife Lake Ice Fishing Derby near the end of January. Wexford County is a county in the U.S. state of Michigan. As of the 2020 United States Census, the population was 33,673. The county seat is Cadillac. Wexford County is part of the Cadillac, MI Micropolitan Statistical Area, which also includes Missaukee County. It is considered to be part of Northern Michigan. The county is the location of the first known sighting of the Michigan dogman. Yuba is a small unincorporated community in the Lower Peninsula of the U.S. state of Michigan. Yuba is a part of Grand Traverse County, and is located in Acme Township along U.S. Highway 31. The Lower Peninsula of Michigan – also known as Lower Michigan – is the larger, southern and less elevated of the two major landmasses that make up the U.S. state of Michigan; the other being the Upper Peninsula, which is separated by the Straits of Mackinac. It is surrounded by water on all sides except its southern border, which it shares with Indiana and Ohio.
