Field Hockey At The 2024 Summer Olympics – Women's Tournament
The women's field hockey tournament at the 2024 Summer Olympics will be the 12th edition of the field hockey event for women at the Summer Olympics. It will take place from 27 July to 9 August 2024. All games will be played at the Stade Yves-du-Manoir in Paris, France. Competition schedule In the preliminary round, games will be played on two pitches. Competition format The twelve teams in the tournament will be divided into two groups of six, with each team initially playing round-robin games within their group. Following the completion of the round-robin stage, the top four teams from each group advance to the quarter-finals. The two semi-final winners meet for the gold medal match, while the semi-final losers play in the bronze medal match. Stade Yves-du-Manoir
The Stade Yves-du-Manoir (officially Stade olympique Yves-du-Manoir, also known as the Stade olympique de Colombes, or simply Colombes to the locals) is a rugby, track and association football stadium in Colombes, near Paris, France. History Named in memory of French rugby player Yves du Manoir in 1928, it was the main stadium for the 1924 Summer Olympics and had a capacity of 45,000 at the time. Field Hockey
Field hockey is a team sport structured in standard hockey format, in which each team plays with ten outfield players and a goalkeeper. Teams must drive a round hockey ball by hitting it with a hockey stick towards the rival team's shooting circle and then into the goal. The match is won by the team that scores the most goals. Matches are played on grass, watered turf, artificial turf, synthetic field, or indoor boarded surface. The stick is made of wood, carbon fibre, fibreglass, or a combination of carbon fibre and fibreglass in different quantities. The stick has two sides; one rounded and one flat; only the flat face of the stick is allowed to progress the ball. 2024 Women's FIH Hockey Olympic Qualifiers
The 2024 Women's FIH Olympic Qualifiers was the final stage of the qualification for the women's field hockey event at the 2024 Summer Olympics. It was held in Ranchi, India and Valencia, Spain between 13 and 20 January 2024. Belgium, Germany, Great Britain, Japan, Spain and the United States qualified for the Olympics. Format Teams not qualifying from the continental qualification tournament were participating in this tournament according to the respective spots received by the FIH. The 16 teams were split into two eight-team tournaments. In each tournament the eight teams were divided into two four-team pools. Laurine Delforge
Laurine Delforge (born 18 July 1990) is an international field hockey umpire and a Belgian field hockey player. She was the winner of the 2016 FIH umpire award and was one of the two first women to umpire at the Euro Hockey League. Playing career Delforge started playing hockey when she was 6. She started playing at Royal Parc Hockey Club in Brussels, but later moved to Royal Antwerp. Delforge currently plays for Royal Antwerp in the top Belgian league. She played for all the Belgian youth squads, but has never played for the Belgian national women's team. However, she has been a member of the national indoor field hockey squad since 2011. Ayanna McClean
Ayanna McClean is a hockey umpire from Trinidad and Tobago and former defender for the Trinidad and Tobago women's national field hockey team. She is the second person from the Caribbean to be qualified to umpire at a World Cup or Olympic tournament, after Roger St Rose, and the first woman. She is the daughter of Cherril Franco, who was the first woman from Trinidad and Tobago to become an FIH Grade One umpire. Playing career McClean started playing hockey when she was 11. McClean was previously a member of the Ventures Hockey Club and she captained both her school team at South-East Port-of-Spain and the under-21 Ventures team. She received a hockey scholarship to attend Hofstra University in Long Island, New York in 2004, and later captained hockey team at Hofstra as well.
