The men's field hockey tournament at the 2024 Summer Olympics will be the 25th edition of the Field hockey at the Summer Olympics, field hockey event for men at the Summer Olympics. It will take place from 27 July to 8 August 2024. All games will be played at the Stade Yves-du-Manoir in Paris, France. Competition schedule In the preliminary round, games will be played on two pitches. Competition format The twelve teams in the tournament will be divided into two groups of six, with each team initially playing round-robin tournament, round-robin games within their group. The Stade Yves-du-Manoir (officially Stade olympique Yves-du-Manoir, also known as the Stade olympique de Colombes, or simply Colombes to the locals) is a rugby, track and association football stadium in Colombes, near Paris, France. Field hockey is a team sport structured in standard hockey format, in which each team plays with ten outfield players and a goalkeeper. Teams must drive a round hockey ball by hitting it with a hockey stick towards the rival team's shooting circle and then into the goal. The match is won by the team that scores the most goals. Matches are played on grass, watered turf, artificial turf, synthetic field, or indoor boarded surface. The stick is made of wood, carbon fibre, fibreglass, or a combination of carbon fibre and fibreglass in different quantities. 2024 Men's FIH Hockey Olympic Qualifiers
The 2024 Men's FIH Olympic Qualifiers was the final stage of the qualification for the men's Field hockey at the 2024 Summer Olympics – Men's tournament, field hockey event at the 2024 Summer Olympics. It was held in Muscat, Oman and Valencia, Spain between 13 and 21 January 2024. Belgium, Germany, Great Britain, Ireland, New Zealand and Spain qualified for the Olympics. Format Teams not qualifying from the continental qualification tournament were participating in this tournament according to the respective spots received by the FIH. The 16 teams were split into two eight-team tournaments. In each tournament the eight teams were divided into two four-team pools. A penalty shootout is a method used in field hockey to decide which team progresses to the next stage of a tournament (or wins the tournament) following a tied game. Two methods have been used: the original penalty stroke competition is a best-of-five penalty strokes with sudden death if scores were level after five strokes.
