Fidel Maldonado (born July 23, 1991 in Albuquerque, New Mexico) is an American professional boxer and the current WBC Youth World Lightweight Champion. Amateur career Fidel was ranked #2 in the U.S. and had a record of 118-12 during his amateur career. In 2008 Maldonado won the U.S. Future Stars National Championship. Light welterweight, also known as junior welterweight or super lightweight, is a weight class in combat sports. In boxing and some other sports, a southpaw stance is where the boxer has the right hand and the right foot forward, leading with right jabs, and following with a left cross right hook. It is the normal stance for a left-handed boxer. The corresponding boxing designation for a right-handed boxer is the orthodox stance, which is generally a mirror-image of the southpaw stance.
