Ffotogallery is the national development agency for photography in Wales. It was established in 1978 and since June 2019 has been based in Cathays, Cardiff. It also commissions touring exhibitions nationally and internationally. Its current director is David Drake. From 2003 to 2019 Ffotogallery was based in Turner House Gallery in Penarth. Background Ffotogallery is a national organisation and has an exhibition programme featuring artists from Wales and the rest of the world. It features touring exhibitions, collaborations with other organisations and galleries, print and online publishing and an education and outreach programme. Peter Fraser (photographer)
Peter Fraser (born 1953) is a British fine art photographer. He was shortlisted for the Citigroup Photography Prize (now known as the Deutsche Börse Photography Prize) in 2004. Life and career Early life Fraser bought his first camera at the age of 7. In 1968, at school, Fraser saw '' Powers of Ten,'' a film by Charles and Ray Eames which over nine minutes takes the viewer on a journey from a couple picnicking in Chicago, out to the imagined edge of the Universe and back, continuing on down through the skin to an atomic level. Fraser went to school in Wales until 1971, then studied Civil Engineering for three months at Hatfield Polytechnic, England, before deciding to study photography. He studied Photography at Manchester Polytechnic between 1972 and 1976, repeating his final year due to becoming seriously ill after crossing the Sahara Desert in early 1975. Wendy McMurdo
Wendy McMurdo (born 1962) specialises in photography and digital media. In 2018 she was named as one of the Hundred Heroines, an award created by the Royal Photographic Society to showcase global female photographic practice. Early life and education McMurdo was born in Edinburgh, Scotland. She attended Edinburgh College of Art, Goldsmiths, University of London and Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, New York where she first became interested in photography. Career Her work centres around the relationship between technology and identity and she has produced several influential bodies of work which explore this theme. In the mid-1990s her first one-person show ''In a Shaded Place – the digital and the uncanny '' was toured extensively by the British Council. Paul Reas
Paul Reas (born 1955) is a British social documentary photographer and university lecturer. He is best known for photographing consumerism in Britain in the 1980s and 1990s. Reas has produced the books ''I Can Help'' (1988), ''Flogging a Dead Horse: Heritage Culture and Its Role in Post-industrial Britain'' (1993) and ''Fables of Faubus'' (2018). He has had solo exhibitions at The Photographers' Gallery and London College of Communication, London; Cornerhouse, Manchester; and Impressions Gallery, Bradford. Turner House Gallery
Turner House Gallery is an art gallery in Penarth, near Cardiff, Wales. Details The gallery was built in 1887/8, designed by architect Edwin Seward in a Queen Anne style for the rich local flour merchant, James Pyke Thompson. Pyke Thompson used the gallery to exhibit his collection of artworks, which include drawings, etchings, and ceramics, by artists including Rembrandt, with free entry to the public. The collection notably includes paintings by J. M. W. Turner, after which the gallery was named. Turner House Gallery was acquired by the National Museum of Wales in 1921 and used to display the museum's secondary public art collection. The building was given Grade II listed status in 1993. Daniel Meadows
Daniel Meadows (born 1952) is an English photographer turned maker of digital stories, and a teacher of photography turned teacher of participatory media. Life and career as photographer Meadows was born in Great Washbourne, Gloucestershire, "in the middle of nowhere on the edge of the Cotswolds", on 28 January 1952. Both of his parents had Suffolk origins; his father was a land agent for the Dumbleton Estate, in which the family lived; his mother developed multiple sclerosis when Daniel was young and this gradually became more acute. John Davies (born 1949) is a British landscape photographer. He is known for completing long-term projects documenting Great Britain and exploring the industrialisation of space. Anna Fox
Anna Fox (born 1961) is a British documentary photographer, known for a "combative, highly charged use of flash and colour". In 2019 she was awarded an Honorary Fellowship of the Royal Photographic Society. Career and work Fox completed her degree in Photography at West Surrey College of Art and Design in Farnham, Surrey in 1986 under tutors Martin Parr, Paul Graham and Karen Knorr. Fox first came to attention with her 1988 documentary study of London office life on the mid-1980s, ''Work Stations: Office Life in London''. She is perhaps best known for her ''Zwarte Piet'' series made between 1993 and 1998, published as the book ''Zwarte Piet'', which documents 'black face' folk culture traditions in the Netherlands. Daniel Blaufuks
Daniel Blaufuks (born 1963) is a Portuguese photographer. Life and work Blaufuks was born in Lisbon. He is the grandson of Polish and German Ashkenazi Jews who moved to Portugal in the late 1920s and 1930s. He moved to Germany in 1976 and returned to Portugal in 1983. He spent several years in the import business, which provided his first-and-last regular job. Blaufuks wanted to be a writer from an early age, but lacked confidence in his ability. He studied photography and started his free-lancing career at the weekly music newspaper ''Blitz'', followed by the newspaper O Independente and, later, the Portuguese Marie Claire and others. Trine Søndergaard
Trine Søndergaard (born 1972), is a Danish photography-based visual artist. Trine Søndergaard lives and works in Copenhagen, Denmark.
