Katie Fforde
Katie Fforde, née Catherine Rose Gordon-Cumming (born 27 September 1952), is a British romance novelist. Published since 1995, her romance novels are set in modern-day England. She is founder of the Katie Fforde Bursary for writers who have yet to secure a publishing contract. She was for many years a committee member of the Romantic Novelists' Association and was elected its twenty-fifth chairman (2009–2011) and later its fourth president. In June 2010 she was announced as a patron of the UK's first National Short Story Week. In 2016, she launched the Stroud Contemporary Fiction Writing Competition as part of the first Stroud Book Festival. Jasper Fforde (born 11 January 1961) is an English novelist, whose first novel, ''The Eyre Affair'', was published in 2001. He is known mainly for his ''Thursday Next'' novels, but has published two books in the loosely connected ''The Big Over Easy, Nursery Crime'' series and the first books of two other independent series: ''The Last Dragonslayer'' and ''Shades of Grey 1: The Road to High Saffron, Shades of Grey''. John Fforde
John Standish Fforde (16 November 1921 – 10 April 2000) was a British economist who was active in the Bank of England between 1957 and 1984. As Chief Cashier between 1966 and 1970, his signature appeared on British Bank Notes. After retirement he became the Bank of England's official Historian, and wrote ''The Bank of England And Public Policy'', which covered the years 1941 to 1958. In 1951 John Fforde married Marya Retinger, the daughter of Austro-Hungarian (later, Polish) political adviser Joseph Retinger, and a granddaughter of journalist E. D. Morel. Cecil Fforde
Sir Cecil Robert Fforde KC (24 June 1875 – 20 October 1951) was a British barrister, judge and diplomat. Biography Fforde was born in Bombay, British India, the second son of Arthur Brownlow Fforde of County Down and Mary Carver. He was educated at Bedford School and called to the Irish bar in 1903. He was appointed King's Counsel and Counsel to the Attorney-General for Ireland, in 1919, Senior Counsel to the Crown, in 1920, and Judge in the Lahore High Court, between 1922 and 1931. He was appointed Judge President of Special Courts in Bechuanaland and Swaziland, Judicial Commissioner of Basutoland, and Legal Adviser to the High Commissioner for South Africa, in 1934, and as High Commissioner for these territories, between 1935 and 1936, representing the territories at the coronation of King George VI in 1937. Arthur Fforde
Sir Arthur Frederic Brownlow fforde GBE (23 August 1900 – 26 June 1985) was an English solicitor, civil servant, headmaster, writer and businessman. Arthur fforde was educated at Rugby School (SH 1914–1919, Head of School) and Trinity College, Oxford. As a solicitor, he became a partner in the law firm Linklaters & Paines (now known as Linklaters) and also had helped establish the Unit trust. He was appointed a Knight Bachelor in the 1946 New Year Honours, having served as an Under-Secretary in the Treasury. In 1948 he returned to Rugby as head master, remaining until 1957,Rugby School Who's Who, 1975 when he became Chairman of the BBC. History The name is popular throughout the four Provinces of Ireland, especially in County Galway, County Leitrim and County Tipperary. Mac Giolla Naomh and Mac Giollarnáth "Mac Giolla Naomh," meaning "son of the devotee of the saints" was an Irish clann / Sept that originated in southern Connemara, Connacht.
