Albania participated in the Eurovision Song Contest 2008 in Belgrade, Serbia, with the song "Zemrën e lamë peng" performed by Olta Boka. Its selected entry was chosen through the national selection competition Festivali i Këngës organised by Radio Televizioni Shqiptar (RTSH) in December 2007. To this point, the nation had participated in the Eurovision Song Contest four times since its first entry in . Due to the introduction of two semi-finals, Albania was drawn to compete in the second semi-final of the contest, which took place on 22 May 2008. Performing as number six, the nation was announced among the top 10 entries of the second semi-final and therefore qualified to compete in the grand final. Festivali i Këngës (; ), also referred to as simply FiK, is an annual music competition in Albania organised by the national broadcaster Radio Televizioni Shqiptar (RTSH). Broadcast every year since its inauguration in 1962, it has also determined the country's representative for the Eurovision Song Contest since 2004. Various singing presentations have been used throughout its history, beginning with radio-only interpretations in the first few years, live performances, playback, remakes, and even duets featuring other singers. The winners have traditionally been selected by a jury. However, other voting methods have also been applied, such as televoting or regional juries. At times, the head juror has carried twice the voting power of other jurors. Jonida Maliqi
Jonida Maliqi (; born 26 March 1983) is an Albanian singer and media personality. Throughout her career, Maliqi has won six awards at Kënga Magjike and first place in 2008. She is also a double winner of accolades at the Top Fest in 2006 and 2010 respectively. Maliqi played Bithia in the Albanian version of '' The Ten Commandments: The Musical'' and starred as Juliet in the Albanian theatre production of '' Roméo et Juliette''. In 2012, she was appointed as the captain of her team at the Albanian version of the Dutch TV series '' I Love My Country'' whereas in 2014 she co-hosted the fourth season of Dancing with the Stars. Elita 5 is an Albanian rock band formed in Tetovë in 1988. The group consisted of vocalist Arif Ziberi, guitarist Mevaip Mustafi, drummer Besim Ibraimi, bass player Agron Idrizi and keyboardist Nexhat Mujovi. With a heavy rock sound and Albanian influence, the band is considered a pioneer of Albanian rock and their songs have a very large fanbase in Albania.
