Festival Mall Alabang, formerly known as Festival Supermall and colloquially known as Festi, is a shopping mall owned and operated by Filinvest Land, Inc.The mall is located at Filinvest City (formerly Filinvest Corporate City) in Alabang, Muntinlupa, in the Philippines. The mall opened on May 15, 1998. The mall has a gross floor area of 400,000 square meters and is the fifth largest mall in the Philippines. In the first quarter of 2014, the mall completed the initial phase of its upgrading and rebranding efforts that began in 2013. Called the River Park, the initial phase of Festival Supermall’s grand expansion is part of the mall’s four-level expansion to keep up with the current growth in the country’s retail industry. Filinvest City
Filinvest City, formerly Filinvest Corporate City, is a central business district situated within the City of Muntinlupa in Metro Manila, Philippines. History The development of Filinvest City began in 1995, by Filinvest at the site of the former Alabang Stock Farm. Under the administration of President Fidel V. Ramos, the farm was opened for joint development with the private sector and the government-owned property was placed for bidding. The Gotianuns acquired the farm after it bested the bids of companies of the Ayala and Gokongwei families in a government-organized bidding. The project was started by the Filinvest Development Corporation (FDC) through its founder Andrew L. Gotianun Sr. FDC established the Filinvest Alabang, Inc. on August 25, 1993, for the purpose of entering a joint agreement with the government to develop the farm. ''The Triumph of Science over Death'', also known as ''Scientia'', is a clay sculpture made by José Rizal as a gift to his friend Ferdinand Blumentritt. The statue depicts a young, nude woman with flowing hair, standing on a skull while bearing a torch. The woman symbolizes the ignorance of humankind during the Dark Ages of history, while the torch she bears symbolizes the enlightenment science brings to the world. The woman stands atop a skull, a symbol of death, to signify the victory that humankind aims to achieve by conquering the bane of death through scientific advancement. The original sculpture is now displayed at the Rizal Shrine Museum at Fort Santiago in Intramuros, Manila. José Rizal
José Protasio Rizal Mercado y Alonso Realonda (, ; June 19, 1861 – December 30, 1896) was a Filipino nationalist, writer and polymath active at the end of the Spanish colonial period of the Philippines. He is considered the national hero (''pambansang bayani'') of the Philippines. An ophthalmologist by profession, Rizal became a writer and a key member of the Filipino Propaganda Movement, which advocated political reforms for the colony under Spain. Automatic Centre was the oldest appliance and electronics retail store in the Philippines. Started in 1948 by Benito Lim, the company had grown from a single store to a multiple store and multiple format retail operation. History Prior to the Japanese occupation of the Philippines, the Lim was family engaged in the furniture business, with three of the biggest furniture stores in the Philippines then. The businesses, however, had to be closed down due to World War II, and a buy-and-sell frenzy took over. Mr. Benito Lim began trading in the basic necessities: toothpaste, toilet paper, soap, clothespins, and such other household items.
