Ferry Graf
Ferry Graf (14 December 1931, Ternitz - 26 July 2017, Jyväskylä) was an Austrian singer, who later became a Finnish citizen. Career In 1959, Graf was selected by the Austrian broadcaster Österreichischer Rundfunk (ORF) to represent the country in the Eurovision Song Contest 1959, with the German language song " Der K und K Kalypso aus Wien" (The K and K Calypso from Vienna). The song ended second to last, in joint ninth place receiving four points. Although the song was released as a single, it was not a commercial success. In the years following his Eurovision participation, Graf made a few appearances in Austrian and German TV, including, playing at ZDF-Hitparade in 1969,https://www.imdb.com/name/nm1486731/ but made no major successes. In the 1970s, he moved to Finland, where he formed his own band, performing Hillbilly music, as well as German cover versions of Elvis Presley's classic song. Harry Winter
Harry Winter (24 September 1914 - 3 December 2001), born Horst Winter, was a German-Austrian singer, musician and band director. Biography Born in Beuthen, Upper Silesia (present-day Bytom, Poland), his family moved to Berlin after the Silesian Uprisings in 1921. He studied violin and clarinet at the Academy of Music and played in jazz and swing dance orchestras to earn a living, later becoming a bandleader. During the Nazi era, Winter adjusted to the regulations given by the ''Reichsmusikkammer'' and concentrated on singing and light dance music. As a Wehrmacht soldier, he was taken prisoner by American forces in late World War II. Released from captivity after the war he proceeded to Vienna, where he first performed at the Konzerthaus and founded his own dance orchestra in 1946. His swing concerts became increasingly popular in Allied-occupied Austria. Winter could sign a recording contract and his orchestra was a guest in several Austrian radio shows. Liane Augustin
Liane Augustin (18 November 1927 – 30 April 1978) was a German Austrian singer and actress. Biography Liane Augustin was born in Berlin, Germany in 1927. Her postwar successes as a nightclub singer in the Viennese Boheme Bar led to numerous recordings, mostly for the Vanguard label; she was often joined by her regular accompanists, the Boheme Bar Trio, which included Michael Danzinger as pianist, Laszlo Gatti on guitar, and Willi Fantel as bassist. She also made frequent radio broadcasts and a number of international live performances. She was chosen to represent Austria at the Eurovision Song Contest 1958 with the song " Die ganze Welt braucht Liebe" ''(The Whole World Needs Love)''. The song finished 5th out of 10 songs, and gained a total of 8 points. She died in 1978, in Vienna, and was memorialized on 26 May 2009 as a co-namesake with Marx Augustin of the Augustinplatz in Vienna, a public square bounded by the Neustiftgasse, Kirchengasse and Kellermanngasse. Hillbilly
Hillbilly is a term (often derogatory) for people who dwell in rural, mountainous areas in the United States, primarily in southern Appalachia and the Ozarks. The term was later used to refer to people from other rural and mountainous areas west of the Mississippi river, too, particularly those of the Rocky Mountains and near the Rio Grande.
